Okay, I've got all my DF stuff back in after two years at least, and I'm having a problem with Haslow's plttools.zip stuff. I'm entering:

xplt whateva.plt

or

tplt whateva.plt

into my DOS prompt hoping it will actually add the colors to my X-Wing and TIE .plts but all it'll give me is a runtime error. What the heck am I doing wrong now and why isn't it working? I can't for the life of me remember if I had to do anything else with the command line than that.

Can anybody help with this? It's preventing me from doing work I want to do with the cutscenes from TIE and X-Wing, and hurting my motivation to work on DF again.

I never used them, so I can't help old skool frown

Although that said... I could try running them on a different machine and see if that does what you want?

fenwar dot dark dot forces at gmail dot com if you want to do that.

The application you want to use us CPUKiller. It can be found at http://www.cpukiller.com/ I used to use version 2 and it helped a lot. Version 3 is out now, but I've never used it.

Perhaps it should be mentioned somewhere on DF-21 officially, or made a download or something.

There - you're no longer ignored. Smile

Sorry...I check these boards sporadically. I just wanted to pop in and say that I have nothing to do with those tools, and I don't even know what they are!

This is true. It was Peter Klassen. O_o Sorry!

Now, I'm just a wee bit confused here. How is slowing down my processor going to help an old textual dos proggy? Is that what this runtime error is? And incidentally it's "Runtime error 200 at 0052:0091" if that means anything to anybody.

I don't quite get it.

According to the CPU Killer website, it has this bit of copy:

Quote:
Do you experience errors like "runtime error" or "overflow error" ?
Have many of your favourite games become too fast to be played or don't run at all?
Cpukiller can be the solution!

These programs were written for slower machines. Machines got faster, but the programs, not written or compiled for the faster machines, could not keep up. It tries doing its computations too fast, and you get memory overflow/runtime errors.

This is especially likely if the program was compiled in Pascal (I don't know if this is the case, though). I could try to go into a lot of technical detail, or link to other sites that discuss it. But really, the bottom line is, try the cpu killer program along with the xplt/tplt programs. If they work, then you're set.

(Let us know either way, though...)

Okay, I understand. I'm just reluctant to try new things. Wink

I'll let you know, and thanks Matt & Fenwar.

Just as a resolution, thank WAS indeed the fix. I wouldn't have known or been able to guess that I needed to physically slow down my processing speed in order to make the programs work. I've never had that problem before and realized I have indeed upgraded machines.

It's all working fine, I've got full access to the cutscene materials and palettes. Thank you so much guys!
