If you edit one of them will they still switch from one to the other or do you have to do something special to them. I've always wanted to do some new music, but the last time I tried, it played one song (I think I replaced Stalk) and then stopped.

There are tags in the files which indicate where and when iMUSE can switch to the other file without it sounding unnatural.
For example, if you're listening to STALK and suddenly you run into troopers, the game will say to iMUSE "OK we're ready for FIGHT music" and then the next time it sees a tag in the music it will only then transition (unless Dark Forces already told it to go back to STALK because you killed all the troopers already).

What can I use to edit tags? Hex editor? GMID and a midi editor? Any idea?

Nevermind. I went looking for some things on the site and found an explanation in the sounds section of the downloads page.
