I have Vista and the only way that I've found to run old DOS games is with DosBox. The problem was that I couldn't run the add-on levels Dark Tide 3 and Assassination on Narshada because I would get an "Out of memory" error when DF loaded them. Turns out for those levels (and now maybe for DT4 as well) you need around 56kb of memory. I found out how to fix that.

DosBox only allocates 16kb of memory by default, so to change it go into the directory where it's installed and open up the dosbox.conf file with a text editor, like notepad. Scroll down to where it says this:

language=
machine=vga
captures=capture
memsize=16

Change "memsize=16" to "memsize=56" and your good to go. Save it and enjoy those super large and amazing DF levels.

Cool. I hope that works. I got AoNS and Dtide 3 working ok on Vista, but Dtide4 wouldn't work at all.

That's 16mb by default and it can go up to 63.

Even at 63 though DOS4GW is giving me out of memory errors when I run from Dark Frontend now... odd... there's plenty of memory... only fix I have is to use lowmem.bat to run Dark Frontend instead of the EXE, which uses lower memory (as Dark Frontend unloads itself before Dark Forces is run).

I've actually never used Dark Frontend. I might have to check it out. I've been running the DF levels the hard way (unzip, play, delete, rinse and repeat...). I'm going to have to try it out.

Yah, all of the levels work for me as long as I have 56mb of RAM allocated. I used to have problems with levels crashing on me, too, like The Rock, Ice World, and AoNS, but with DosBox I've had no problems whatsoever with any level (wow, that sounds like a commercial).

Excellent. I was able to put together a new version of DT4 complete with custom vocs, bugfixes, adjustments for those playing on dosbox and stuff. Anyway I tried uploading it and it didn't work.
Unfortunately some of the sequences, like the atst sequence just have a tendency to work only half the time when you're using dosbox. There is no easy way to fix it. Sorry.
