Hiya pplz. I finaly get a chance to post a thread, srry I am traveling alot due to classes in different towns.
Anyway, I have got a new laptop in which I am dumping many of my Lucas Arts classic games, includeing Jedi Knights, Outlaws, and Mysteries of the Sith which is running the cutsceans normaly and not speeding up too fast. The fun part is that me and my peers are linking up our computers to play direct multiplayer with a CAT5 cable, and a hub.
THE QUESTION I HAVE IS: I really want to somehow link up Xwing vs Tie Fighter directly from comp to comp. However, with the multiplayer options that the game provides (Still in the Modem age), I couldnt seem to find a link up two systems, (atleast not at the time) Would ne on know of a way, even if Internet is involved, there would be a way to link up two systems? Or is there a way to still play Xwing Vs Tie Fighter online?
If anyone has any questions reguarding the other classic games feel free to ask.

I know for a fact I played coop with my brother in XvT and had no problems getting it to work (he sucked at it by the way, was off doing God knows what and let me die).
I forget how XvT multiplayer games work, but just look under the multiplayer stuff, someone hosts a game and everyone else looks for it under "Local" or "Network" (as opposed to "Internet"). It can't be that hard to figure out.

Ok well let me ask this, just do ur best to remember, on the multiplayer options where it asks you to select connection, there is IPX or something like that, which pops up some warning to "Check Windows 95 network set up" then there are 3 others, Direct Modem, Direct Serial, and the second one that i couldn't remember but it relies on the internet, which one did u pick? I would assume that it would be the second one, only every time i use that one, it would put me back on the home page without an exclamation.

Is the laptop actually running Windows 95, or is it XP?
I could be way off, but I think you might need to install the IPX protocol in your networking settings.
In XP you would do this by:
Start > Control Panel > Network Connections
Right-click on the LAN connection you're using > Properties
Install > select "Protocol" > Add
Then there's a list including something like NWLink IPX compatible transport protocol - select that and hit OK. Then close the open dialogs and reboot your PC and you should be good to go.
The process in Windows 95 would be pretty similar (I remember doing something along those lines so I could play games against my brother) but it was a decade ago...
Hope that helps anyway?

Thanks Fen, and yeah, im useing XP. And the prob that im facing with the IP connection is that unlike the other LA Classic games (Which search for the connection) XvT asks you to put in the IP # and being in a direct connection, the IP# is the same on both comps, and even with that, it takes me back to the home screen.

Ah it's one of the games that allows you to choose IPX or TCP. OK.
You'll want to use IPX for LAN games since it's easier to get working... unless the computers playing don't have IPX installed... in which case you'll have to use TCP, but then you need the LAN IP of the host (type ipconfig at a command prompt to see it).
You can see if you have IPX installed on a computer by going to Network Connections, going to the properties of your network connection, and making sure "NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol" is present and checked. If it isn't you can click Install > Protocol > Add and it should pop up in the list for you to install. No configuration required.
I don't believe XP installs IPX by default. You can just use TCP then, but just be sure to get the IP. Using the computer's network name for the IP address might also work.

Alright, cool, now if i use the TCP, where would you go to get the network name , because i went from going into the network connection properties, and writing the IP adress on paper and putting it to the Multiplayer option, and it takes longer for it to search, but it kicks me back to home after a minuet or so, so I have a fealing that im typing in the wrong stuff. am i to type the connection name like "Local Area Connection 3" or what?

You give your computer a name when you install Windows.
