I uploaded a copy of Star Base that's a plain zip file instead of a zip of a self-extracting .exe. I think it should replace the current copy, at least on http://df-21.net/downloads/missions-mz.html.

ZIP of a self-extracting EXE is pretty lame. The whole idea of a self-extracting EXE is that you don't need to use a tool to handle archives like ZIPs. Plus the fact that a self-extracting EXE inside a ZIP means the data is compressed TWICE... despite what those who know next to nothing about compression think, it does NOT make it any smaller.

The zip on DF-21 has both the exe and a text file in it; so it could be that it originally came from AOL or a BBS, or somewhere else where files had text descriptions attached, and then someone zipped the two files together to upload them somewhere else. That would make a kind of sense.
