How's the enemy placement going? Are you able to place them so that a few stormies can be such a pain in the a**? Of course, since this isn't a levvel, I reccomending sticking with placing them in groups, behind corners, up on REASONABLE ledges (such as balconies or catwalks), and one of my favorites, right beind significant doors. Of course, you could do things like I do, and change "MED"(ium) to "BRAVE", and "HARD" to "JEDI"... All you have to do is place enough generators to keep the player indefinitely occupied, and give the player three logics!

Interesting point of view NTK.
I've got the whole enemy placement thing down though, but I think I've made easy way too easy. So I'll either be adding more enemies, or lowering the powerups to balance it. But I'm also having problems with object placement in different skill levels that I'm trying to figure out. So until I solve that problem, it may take just a little longer than expected. But it will be completed by the end of the month at the latest. It could be done next week, a couple days, who knows. Just like when we were all wondering when Gran Turismo 3 would appear on PS2. They went 6 months over their deadline. And then we've got the infamous Dark Tide Series we've all been dying to see the rest of, but god knows when that will be done.
By the way NTK. You use PC right? Could you possibly do my textcrawl and mission briefing? I would be greatly indebted to you if you did, maybe make a few waxes or BMs?

My adivise would be to use a few more enemies rather than less powerups as long as you use wisdom in placing the enemies. I would rather shoot a few more enemies than run around for long preiods wihout seeing anyone. also, if you have areas that the player comes back to I would think about adding a few generators. I hate returning to the same abbandonded area over and over. It makes the level feel dead, no pun intended.

If it's simply converting files for you, I can do that. If it involves working with the FILM format, I'm still trying to figure that out.
As for BMs, I can easily do those; There are mabye only a handful of image formats I cannot convert into BMs, an I don't think any of them are found in the US.
WAXes? haven't really worked with those before, but I don't think I'd be too hard. It's just that I haven't found use for new ones in my levels yet...
Briefing? I guess I could handle that. Are you just going to change the actual text of the briefing, or do you want the background (which includes the buttons) too?
However, I don't think I wish to do the textcrawl... Sorry about that.
Just E-Mail me the stuff you wish to be used (the text for the briefing, etc), and I'll be able to have it done by next Saturday, or as early as Monday if necessary, as long as you're not requesting hundreds of files...

It's just the text of the mission I need changed. Or here's an idea, could somebody extract the LFD files for the textcrawl, briefing, inventory, weapons, and credits to a BMP file? Because then I could do it myself and all you guys need to do is reconvert them all to one file. Would that work?

Presuming that I can wrest control of my home's only internet connection, you will get them tonight.
That's more features for Dark Forge... WDFUSE comes with tools for extraction and conversion of all files used in Dark Forces.

Good idea, I shall make that suggestion now.

Well, so much for wresting control last evening... Sorry about that.
I've sent the files... Unfortunately, I seem to have caught WDFUSE in a bad mood, as it has refused to convert the credits file. I included the original .DLT file in case you have a utility for it...
If you plan on changing the size or location of any of the items/weapons in the PDA, I reccomend you set the dimensions of the BMP file to 320x240. That way, you may have a better idea of where everything is; at least I did.

I didn't realize that making those ANIM files was so easy... It only took me about a half and hour of pain-staking work to change the difficulty settings to "Easy", "Brave", and "Jedi".
I wonder if there's a quicker way to make briefings... Such as an already-made Bitmap font for Windows, allowing me to simply use the text tool. Using only the basic Copy/Paste, it took me an hour just to get ten lines of text.

I have the font that is used in the game briefings. Just download the DF GOLD package, it is in there.

Well, the link seems to have me wait. And wait. And wait...
Are you sure that both systems use the same type of font file? That'd be a bit of a download for just a single font, which would probably be 20k at the biggest!

There was a font for download with a level, that was the same font as in the df briefings. I think it was the Back to Yavin one.
BTW, I don't have any finals tomorrow, anything I could help with? (Briefing, textccawl.) I can whip up a decent textcrawl in 15-30mins, a briefing in an hour or an hour and a half...
Of course, this assumes I won't be distracted, hehe *king of distraction*.

I don't have any finals today! And I have only one more on each of Wednesday and Thursday...
By fonts, I was refering to the actual fonts that Windows uses for its applications. Such a utility could be invaluable, allowing one to simply type up a mission briefing, cutting the required time to about 5 minutes for a large file.

Then I guess I'll try downloading it again...
...Aaaannnd it downloads, but the DF Gold package is in a different format. What program is used to open it, if it can be under Windows?
...Or, perhaps the font itself could be E-mailed?

If you wanna help, Mega, you can do the Textcrawl, credits, and briefing for me while I tackle the other things. I've got too much on my plate right now to get those done in time before finals and Christmas Vacation. As of 12/21 - 12/26, I will be in the state of Nevada celebrating christmas with my grandma and the rest of the family. Then (if my friend and I can do it), I will be going up to the mountains on a skiing trip for my birthday (12/30), but that I highly doubt since I'm kinda broke and don't really have a vehicle capable of getting to the mountains.
Plus I still have a book to write for the family, so that will also delay my release time by about 50%.
The Bulk of the level is playable, but it still has a couple of kinks to be worked out before it can be released. All and all, I'd say the level is 99% complete. At this point, I've completed basic object placement, so all I need to do is decorate with sounds, add the other two skill levels, and fix a major INF problem with one of the trains as well as a problem with the "complete" sector, which has been very subborn with me, even though I flawlessly wrote the script. There may be a hidden script somewhere in there that I'm missing. hopefully when I find that out, all the objectives will work. For now, I think it's safe to say that Spice Bust on Taloron is basically complete. I should be finished with it by hopefully next week, lest I have my Textcrawl, Credits, and Briefing done in a reasonable time. It will be my christmas present to you guys.
So yeah, Mega, if you would do those things, I will send you a text file with my requirements. I would greatly appreciate your help.
And Nottheking, thanks to you as well. I'm almost done with the weapon and inventory parts of the PDA. I think what I'll do is have them all sent to you so you can reconvert them all into one LFD. That is, if you are up to doing that.

Sure... I have some time off today too, I'd be glad to help.
Send the text file to the_mega_zzter@yahoo.com
Don't forget to specify the details, like who should be giving the briefing.
I also could do objectives if you want, but I'll stick to the briefing and textcrawl for now.

Of course, my E-mail address is listed in my user information. You can use that...
Also, were you to have be beta test your level, I could dig out those INF bugs for you... Mabye. Of course, If your level is big enough, you won't be able to send it to me... You'd have to upload it to a website (try www.freewebs.com), and tell me of the location...
