So for some odd reason, some of my custom BMs are coming up weird in the BM maker in WDFUSE.

And for some reason BMPDF isn't wanting to cooperate under XP. Is there something I'm doing wrong or does BMPDF just plain not work under XP?

They run fine here. Do you have XP x64? Cause they're 16-bit DOS programs and 16-bit programs can't run under XP x64, unless you use DOSBox or a virtual machine to run them.

I don't know off the top of my head because I'm at work, but where would I go to look?

Essentially what's happening is everytime I double click on one of the DOS programs, it shows up for a split second then disappears. Now I could myself be doing something wrong or I've got x64 like you said. But again, I can't check until I get home later.

Blame XP, which doesn't use a DOS kernel.

To run BMPDF while in DOSBox:

mount c c:\
c:
cd c:\bmpdf

(Assuming the contents of bmpdf.zip are extracted to C:\bmpdf.)

Alternatively, you can put these three lines at the bottom of dosbox.conf to have them write out automatically.

When you load DOSBox after that, follow the command line instructions given in the BMPDF readme.

They. Run. Fine. On. XP. For. Me.

So don't blame XP.

Go to Start > Run and type winver and click OK. The dialog box that pops up looks something like this under Windows XP 32-bit:

Under 64-bit (aka x64) Windows it should say something about being 64-bit somewhere on there.

Nope, not x64. Guess I'll have to settle with DOSBox for now.

Well, I've got it running in DOSBox now, but for some reason every time I try to make a BM, it keeps giving me this:

Error: read fault file: {filename}.bmp

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Where "asdf.bmp" is a 256 color bitmap (saved with mspaint) in the same directory as 2DF.EXE:

C:\BMPDF>2df asdf.bmp asdf.bm

Works fine for me.

This is important:

Ugh... still no good...

Oh wait, never mind. I had my palettes configured wrong in GIMP which kept causing it to do that. Thanks for the tip Smile
