There are a few items I'd like to see added to the BB, if Fenwar is willing to add them...'
Please add to the list.

1. I'd like to see the flood control reduced. I know that some is needed, but this is a rather small board. It annoys me when I spot an error I've made, and I have to wait some 10 seconds to fix it. I think somewhere between 3-5 seconds would be better.

2. Also, does the program allow you to change some of the words used by the code? I think the word "wrote" in the quotes would be better off if changed to a "said"...

It looks to me as if Nottheking is trying to up his standing in the Post count leader board!

Mind you, you now have a preview button, so there's no excuse for making mistakes...
Bah... As I said earlier, most of the time i'm too lazy to use the preview... the other half of the time, I still miss the mistakes...

I really only use the preview when I used a bunch of UBB code. Just to make sure it looked right

There are a lot more images here than before though Tom.
It would perhaps help if I sorted the PM icon which doesn't fit with the others yet.

I'd like to see avatars allowed!! I know you ancient whine bags will complain, because you like it old-fashioned, lol. But I think it's way past time that we update this mofo.

I'm not sure why most of the boards I make result in hostile conversation, if not outright flamewars...
Anyway...
3. I'd like to be able to delete any of my posts, not just the most recent one. I'm fairly sure there's a good reason for this being in place, so I'll probably get a quick explaination here, and forget this one...

Well, if you can delete any post you make, rather than simply the most recent one, there's a much greater chance of ruining the flow of the thread (not that all our threads flow well anyway, but still).

4. AlthoughI'm not sure if it would be at all possible, I wonder if there would be a way to fix the BB, so that when IE locks up on me right after getting to the boards, I don't come back to have it mark all of the boards as "old". I know it removes the "new" tag/flag/mark/whatever when you look at them, and wonder if this effect could be made more extensive...

phpBB only knows that you visited, it doesn't know your browser crashed. The program assumes that you didn't visit those threads because you weren't interested in them. Changing this would mean that everyone would have to remember to click the "Mark all posts read" link every time they leave. Which would be mightily annoying.
Your best bet if this happens & you don't want to miss anything is to go by last post date.
Or you could fix whatever it is that's causing IE to crash on your computer...

Or you could run Mozilla, which I do. Protects me from a lot of the sludge out there.

I use Mozilla Firebird. It very rarely crashes on me.

Mozilla 1.4 on XP is pretty good to me. You can 1.5rcsomething if you feel daring.
Of course, there's Firebird but somehow I didn't like it as much.
Users of fake operating systems might want to try Galeon or Safari.

I had even forgotten about Mozilla for a while... I guess that it will go on my computer, once I connect it... (I've been using other's for quite some time...)
Also, I have another thing to put on the list:
5. I would like to know how we can make polls... I checked everywhere I could find/think of, yet found nothing helpful...

As I was creating the forums I altered the poll permissions as I wanted to reserve them for moderators. However in the showcase forum I forgot to turn this off, and now I can't be bothered to go back and change it, so you can post (relevant) polls in the showcase forum. So far it's been used wisely; if it continues and enough people want it I could be persuaded to let everyone post polls in the General Discussion forum.
In the meantime, if you do want to call a vote on something, by all means PM me and I can set it up...

Thanks, Fenwar.
The results of my feeble attempt to make a poll can be found at this thread: http://forums.df-21.net/viewtopic.php_t=55

Polls in GD? I think that's a phrikking bad idea. OTOH, not having polls in GD would encourage the dipshits to post irrelevant crap in Feedback or something.

The forums list page is too cluttered, and it looks like a kalidescope when I move my mouse over it - those color-changing links are infuriating!! If we were to take out the links to various sub-lists (there's no need for "General Forums" and the like to be links) things might be clearer. Also, I'd like to see the DF-21 logo become a link back to the homepage again - there're already too many links back to the forums index, and yet no way to get back home!
The topic lists are just as bad. Everything is a link, or else a picture, and the little features like "view most recent post" just take up space (and that one doesn't even work, anyway). I'm running my screen at 1280x1024 resolution, and I still find the clutter impossible to deal with. Besides the general lack of clarity, the topic list is practically double-spaced, which I find much worse than our old topic listing, where I could see just about everything from the last month without scrolling down. And again, those color-changing links drive me absolutely up the wall and through the ceiling.
And the post page is horrendous. That little table of smileys, the row of buttons that don't work for me (Javascript issue, I assume), that little bar constantly reminding me about styles, and the useless selections for font color and size all get in the way. We're all used to typing out BB or HTML code by hand, and nobody would be in all that much trouble if we dumped the buttons and options. We did without them for years anyway. Besides, some of those options make it easy for newbies who want to mess around to fill their posts - and hence all our screens - with a bunch of lame formatting that screams at us like a banshee under a printing press.
The post reply page, I think, is the worst. Identical to the post-topic page, I had to go back the first time to make sure where I was. Nobody uses a subject line for individual posts.
I liked the old system of typing the user name and password directly on the post page. Having a whole separate page to load every time you just want to input your password is a waste of time, as well as just more of a roundabout process.
I'd also like to see HTML code allowed. I'm used to typing HTML flags out by hand, and they come a lot more naturally than BB code tags. Sure, restrictions on HTML code are a good idea so nobody starts putting in EMBED flags or Javascript, but if we can add lists and images and so forth with those wretched buttons, why can't we do them with our own HTML? The old restrictions we had on that worked just fine.
All in all, the new forums resemble those forums you can find that are populated by broken-hearted Weezer addicts, and don't look a ton like the old DF-21 forums we used to know. Simplify, simplify, simplify!

I thought the link colours were the same as the old forums actually. The category headers are useful but I agree they don't need to be links; I may change that.

I nearly did change the logo to be a homepage link, but decided to add the "DF-21.net Home" link to the menu instead. I think the forums are easier to navigate with that logo link and find myself clicking it regularly.

I suppose the profile links don't need to be there. That would tidy the page up a bit.
The view latest post link (& view newest post) works well for me. Could be a cookies/javascript thing? Where do you end up if you click it?

I don't think it's that bad, to be honest. I find the extra links to be very useful and having to scroll the forum index a little is a lot easier than scrolling through every single thread to find the new posts.

I agree with you on many things here, as I'm unlikely to make much use of those buttons myself. But I don't think they're being used too excessively. If every other post was in dayglo pink I'd start to take steps.

I agree that's a bit of a change. I guess you just have to remember what you clicked on. I'll see if there's any way of getting the thread title on that page though (it ought to be at the end of the breadcrumb trail really).

Most people are using cookies so they don't have to log in on every visit. Your other option is to log in as soon as you get here; you should then not have to go through the separate page when you post.

I guess we were fine with HTML on the old forums. I'd like to make sure that phpBB does what it should with script tags and so on before I enable that, but it may happen in future.

I have already spent quite a lot of time simplifying... I've removed absolutely tonnes of clutter such as avatars, links to every single instant messaging system under the sun, annoying icons in the header menu etc.
Most of the new stuff that's left has been left because it's useful - for example private messaging (if anyone fancies making an icon for that I'd be most grateful) and the newest post links. I'm guessing most of this isn't useful to you without Javascript but that's the way it goes, I suppose. Hopefully you'll get used to most of it after a while.
Thanks for the feedback. There are a couple of changes I might make. Not all of them though...
