I'm actually in the middle of class right now, but I just got The Foce Unleashed yesterday. I plan to try it out as soon as class ends. I already got feedback from some of my friends that the game was kick arse. I also learned that everything in between episodes III and IV of starwars is starting to come into place. I'm opening this thread to just talk about LAs new Hit. I'll post my own thread when I get a chance to play it.

The Force Unleashed is awesome and annoying at the same time. Throwing stormtroopers around NEVER gets old.
Ther two things that annoy me the most are the checkpoint system and dying. I like to explore my games. I'm the kind of guy that'll jump around a mountain for hours, hoping that I can climb outside the level. However, when you die in the Force Unleashed, you go back to a checkpoint and the game takes FOREVER to reload.
That said, it is still a really fun game to play.

A buddy and I rented this for his PS2 and I must say it is definitely better than most of the reviews I've read.
Mixing up the force with your saber and throwing objects and enemies around truly doesn't get old like Taton said. I'd say we got about 3/4 through the game before having to return it. I like the story a lot and am curious to rent it again and see what else happens.
There are some annoying or frustrating parts but overall I like the way the game plays, and the graphics and sound are nice, even though we were only playing the PS2 version. I'm not a big Wii fan, but I'm curious to check out that version, because out of the new systems I believe it's the only one to include a multiplayer/ one-on-one fighting addition to the game.

Got it for the 360 and played through the story over the weekend. After some so-so reviews and not really loving the demo, I tried to resist buying this game, but I might as well have been Anakin trying to wait in the Jedi Temple.
TFU is better than I expected from the reviews. It felt very much in the spirit of the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series but with much bigger story and characters. They could have easily used this technology to do another Kyle Katarn story but it wouldn't have the impact. TFU's cinematics are better than parts of the prequels.

I heard a rumor that there's no PC version planned . . . is this true?
I might get it anyway for 360, but I don't really have much time these days (too much school work) . . .

I was going to hold off buying it until I knew whether or not there was going to be a CPU version of the game, because I was thinking "OMG! the modz!!!" Seeing as this is not the case, I'll be purchasing the Xbox version.

It's a great game but its far too short. I bought it on Friday and had finshed it twice by monday, and I didn't even spend the whole weekend playing it.
Of course the force powers are a really great feature of the game. I really enjoyed the cutscenes and the storyline of the game. It feels like a classic Star Wars movie in ways the prequels just don't.
Another annoying thing is the repetition of locales.
There are only 10 levels in the game. Why have 2 levels set on Kashyyyk, two levels set on Felucia, and two levels set on Raxus Prime? Maybe a Tatooine or Coruscant level might have been nice. Also the Cloud City level is not set on Cloud City, but outside it. As well as this many of the levels seem to be quite short. It just weird considering the size of some games nowadays such as GTA IV or Oblivion, which I know are sandbox games, but still you get you moneys worth, i.e. weeks of gameplay. I feel like I had The Force Unleashed finished in about 5 hours. Even Dark Forces took longer to complete, as well as all its sequels.
The lightsaber combos are a good combat feature, but sometimes it just feels like a generic hack 'n' slash game.
The autosave feature is alright, but what annoys me is the save option they give you in the options screen. It's totally pointless. If you use it and then die, you don't start back where you saved, but at the last point the game autosaved.
Despite all these problems this is still a fun game. The graphics are really great. The atmosphere is spot on. The music avoids being stale. Though its the same kind of stuff we've heard in every Star Wars game ever, it sounds fresh and original in this game.
My favourite things about this game:
-The prequel mission/playable cutscene where you get to play as Vader is really cool. They should make an entire game like this
-Pulling the Star Destroyer out of the sky was satisfying.
-The Purge Troopers are proto-Dark Troopers yeah!
-Fighting Vader and beating the helmet off his ugly head.
-I think its really funny that Starkiller's droid proxy is always trying to kill him.
Anyway it's a great game, just a pity that it wasn't a bit bigger, a bit more epic. Maybe episodic content would have been the way to go with this a la Half Life 2.
I was playing this on xbox 360 Has anybody played the wii version? I heard it wasn't great.

Ok I finnaly got to play it. I thought it was good and all, but not as much as the Game Informer, nor my friend who played it said it was. I kinda was expecting it to be easier to control. At the beginning I was like: "hang on! how do you do what?" Some of the storyline was a little cheesy, like i thought that the apprentice was suppose to be a hardcore sith lord, and not just some pansy who pretty much just fights the Empire all the time. I haven't gotten around to finishing it yet, but of what Brien said, I should be at the end already, and if I am...sorry to say it was a disappointment for me...

I finally beat the game, though I'm a little puzzled. I got the Darkside ending.
How does the game determine what ending you get? Did I torture to many stormtroopers or something?

You get a choice to either turn left and save general Kota from the Emperor, or turn right and finish off Vader. You must have unwittingly turned right.
What's really annoying about this game is in order to get the other ending you ahve to start the entire game again. you can't just load from a previous save point. But it don't matter. should only take you 5 minutes or so to finish it again.

Ok I got to finish it...and...oh god, fighting Vader and then having the Emperor say "take his place on my side" sounds VEERRY familiar. (Ep. 6) And i thought vader dies if you remove his mask...

Nah in Episode 6 the reason he died without his mask was because Palpatine's Force Lightning was hitting him as he picked up and threw him down the shaft, thus bringing Anakin to his final minutes but before he died he wanted to see Luke with his own eyes. I thought he was gonna die as well since his mask was off but I remembered what happened in ROTJ. Anyway I'm hoping to get this for the PS3 sometime soon.

Housemate got the game. Doesn't look particularly fun to play, but the cinematics are like watching another SW movie. But better. Done an excellent job at tying the prequels to the original series.
Not too bothered that they didn't use many recognizable Star Wars locales. Tend to dislike them trying to shoe-horn Tatooine in yet again - for a backwater planet it sure does get a lot of attention.

Agreed, Tatooine is way overused in Star Wars games.

Nothing great about Tatooine anyway, just a giant dust bowl in space.

But Tatooine has Jawas, and if it weren't for Tatooine, we wouldn't have Dark Tide!

I read that the reason Vader died was that the Emperor's lightning fried his breathing hardware. That's why his breathing sounds so laboured after the Emperor's assault.
Why did removing the Mask kill Vader in RotJ? I think he was probably mortally injured anyway and removing the mask just quickened the process. Maybe the helmet was pressurised or something.
How would Luke know about Vader's mask anyway? He's just an ignorant farmboy.

Well one thing is for sure... we need George Lucas on this thread to explain a few things... All this new stuff like TFU is raising some questions. But then again, Idk if anyone remembers the arcade game Rebel Assault, the first one? The story was all over the place.

Oh god I remember Rebel Assault. Great game but holy crap was the story messed up. Like you start off hearing that the Death Star is destroyed then you see the Tantive IV just captured. And then there's the Battle of Hoth after beating that stage you go to a space station that was already destroyed, The Death Star. Apparently you had 2 roles in the game but the way they played it out kinda got screwy. You start off as Rookie 1 then all of sudden you're Luke Skywalker. Rebel Assault = TIME PARADOX!! lol sorry but I had to. Anyway TFU wasn't that bad at telling the story you don't get as confused when you've seen all of the movies and know the times they took place. So there are always assumptions.

Rebel Assault had its moments of awesomeness, but I didn't like it as much as the second one.

Ditto. I actually found RA II to be somewhat easier than RA I
