Hello once more ;D Right now I want to make a new Dark Forces Logo and I wonder how to import it into the game. I could not find a tool which converts a series of bitmaps to an ANIM file. I could also not find any tool to create a .pltt file (I guess that would be needed to make an animation?) Does anyone know more about this?

Thank you very much in advance Smile

I think all those tools are included in WDFUSE . . . however, most of them are extremely buggy and tend to crash if you make the slightest wrong move (on my computer, at least . . . )
Btw, does this happen to all of you or is it my computer's fault? It most often happens to me when converting external formats to DELTs and FMEs and BMs. It doesn't crash the program, but it gives me error messages such as "External exception C000001D" and does nothing with the file. As far as I can remember, I've never gotten it to work, and the same issue occurs on all 3 computers I've used.

I've found I have to restart WDFUSE each time I wanted to modify one thing twice, otherwise it only pretends that the changes were made the second time.

Interesting, I get exactly the same error message - so it is not your computer at least Wink

Hm, well I still need a pltt file to use WDFUSE - or will it simply take a set of bitmaps and create a pltt itself? Hmmm.....

The common PLTT used for all the game's briefings is called 'brf-jan.plt' . . . you'll find it in the DFBRIEF.LFD file, along with a bunch of other PLTTs. I don't know which one is used for the logo screens.
Try this: extract a few likely-looking PLTTs from the LFD. Open up the converter, load each palette, and see what the regular logo screen ANIMS look like with each palette. Whichever one looks normal is the PLTT you should use for your new custom logo screen.
Remember the color limitations palettes cause. If you're using an image editing program that supports palettes (like GIMP), you could try drawing the picture with the palette loaded. That way you'll avoid any color loss when converting from RGB.

EDIT: I mentioned the brf-jan.plt ^^ . . . that's what the file is called OUTSIDE of DF, in Windows. However, in the LFD, the name is PLTTbrf-jan . . . you don't need to do anything, WDFUSE converts the name automatically, just note the difference so you won't have trouble finding it Smile

bmpdf is handy for messing with anims and delts and stuff because of the makefile option

Hm, I tried out bmpdf but it's quite complex and time consuming. I already figured out how to extract the pictures quite easily - but converting an ANIM is a different story :-/ Too bad there's no easy custom gui xD

I could probably figure it out if I had a computer that would actually RUN IT Mad
It gives me memory errors every time, no matter what I try to do about it . . . DOSBox, Windows Compatability mode, extra RAM memory . . . none of it works. I could throw up, seriously. I guess my only option is to fix my old Win98 pc and hope it'll work there.
