Hiiiiiiiiii! My salvating loyal fans (both of you) who have been waiting for my Epic OPERATION CAKEWALK: KYLE LIKES CAKE levvel will want to try DEMO #2!

http://www.raptoric.com/~lel/cakewalk.zip

Don't get excited though, it's unfinished and I'm not at all happy with how stuff turned out, I can do a lot better, funny-wise, so I'm reworking A LOT OF STUFF so that I maintain that silly humour I had in mind earlier on. I got rushed and carried away and it shows. Worth a look, I guess, if you like silly humour, or to see how much I suck. You can see it just gets tedious at the end where I lost interest, BUT THIS IS NOT THE END! I AM NOT CANCELLING THIS PROJECT! JUST UH.... TWEEKING IT UNTIL IT ISN'T SO LAME! The final version, to be released sometime in the next 1000 years, will be brilliantly satiracal and funny, I promise!
Consider this "Cakewalk Lite - Things to come"

Ermm... A little big for someone with a 56k line hookup.

:: Keels over and dies before it finishes ::

THIS is what library computer access is meant for!

::Waits until the following day, when he can go to the library::

::realizes that sitting there and waiting gets nothing done, and time passess so sloooowwwly, and gives up::

How long is it? The first demo was very short, I hope that the final levvel is between 20-50 times longer...

...An irrelevant question: I presume that the emperor's birthday cake is made from BLEACHed flour, right? Or is it DARK-side cake? Is it possible for the cake to fit both? Razz

I consulted the best Star Wars technical experts and Kevin J. Anderson, and they all agree the Emperor's cake is a clone of the original cake, called caake, that has dark side powers embodied in it.

Come on, guys, it's smaller than both Dark Tides! Yes, it's longer, but it is the SOUNDS that take up all the space. Sorry.

Eh...that wasn't entirely fun in the end. It kinda died, and the Toilet Troopers weren't particularly funny either. I was expecting so much more out of those mechanized porcelain warriors of pure screaming death. Blah. Oh well. The five minutes of cutscenes in the beginning makes up for it I guess.

I agree, the ending was pretty bland. But everything else, like the interesting vocs and time warps made up for it. Not to mention the outrageous weapons and puns you added.

My weapon of choice: The hand of death! The one that crosses the enemies out. Reminded me of a Japanese anime I saw once. I also like the interesting powerups you put in there.

Although it did get a little overrated and bland towards the end, it was still hilariously funny Laughing .

Yep, you're spot on with your critique there, guys. I lost the energy I had early on, and you can see. Don't worry though, it's back to the drawing board, and I'm NOT rushing through it this time at all. It'll be done when it is done, I'll put in everything I had planned, but when it is it'll be perfect.

Okay! Okay! I'll hurry up and finish it!

It's almost done, I could have it done by next week. Just a little bit more, guys, just be patient.

I don't think there was ever a time when PCs had only 1 kilobyte of RAM, unless you mean 1 MEGAbyte...

...I shall quote Bill Gates, sometime around 1981-83:

I've finished all of my testing for it. Here are some of the good parts:
    The levvel is much longer.

Most of the new cutscenes were quite nice and silly, especially the "plot for dummies", and the "Arm and Hammer" "prisoner" scene right after that. Also, the briefing from Mon Mothma really cracked me up!

I found the secret area (WITHOUT CHEATING), and it was quite... interesting, albeit very brief.

The time machine was quite interesting, including the Austin Powers scene.

The PA system in the studio is one of the best elements I've ever see added to a game, and the messages were hilarious!
Here are some of what I found to be flaws:
The levvel still needs to be completed (duh)

I didn't like the removal of the original Crow narration: "But Kyle was going to ruin the Emperor's birthday party anyway! I mean, he can easily infiltrate entire cities, and blow them to smithereens; what chance did a birthday party have? But anyway, something else was happening", along with the music that accompanied the orignal cutscene, which I thought was a perfect fit. Not that the new one "...It had been two months since he last infiltrated an Imperial Base and shot some people." was bad...

Also, I kinda liked the original music better, even though I forgot the name of the song... But the new one gets its own humor by bring a ripoff of a ripoff!

The toilet troopers were a little too heavily placed inside the factory... Then again, I WAS playing on HARD...

In addition to that, I'd like to make a few suggestions. Feel free to ignore any/all of them.

I hope the levvel will continue on after that, eventually reaching Imperial Pizza Land. But I have another way to add to it, without having to re-do it. I can tell you if you like, but let me know if I should post it here, or put it into a PM, so that it isn't announced early.

Also, My idea of Toilet Troopers was apparently more sanitary than yours... I envisioned them as shooting water for primary fire (As that looks like the DT's plasma), and using Tidy-Bowl (or however that's spelled) missiles for secondary fire. The rest of your weapons (especially the sequencer cheese, and the Vader... weapon!) were quite nice.

Also, I hope there'll be a more extensive ending section. I do recognise that, since you haven't actually made the end of the levvel, you don't have the end-of-level cutscene, but I was hoping for more "sponsors".

I don't remember the "Hi, I'm Kyle Katarn and I'm here to kill everybody" part either. Did you take it out? If so, I hate you and demand that you put it back in. I wanted to see a bigger "Help the North" win part too. Just because slaughtering hundreds of Confederates was so fun.

Thanks for all the input, it has been considered. Just keep in mind this was a demo and a bunch of particularily amusing stuff has been removed as not to spoil it for you. Anyway, back to work! I'll TRY to have this thing out soon.

(and then again, in your case, there is no "do Not" either!)

Along with the parts I mentioned, I really like the "un-reality" section, especially the sky texture...

And yes, the "I'm Kyle Katarn and I'm here to kill everybody" line should best be re-inserted into the levvel...

Also, I definitely hoped for more of the "Civil War" part than there was...

...And please, use as many of the 19 possible layers as you can, for different times... You could have the dangerous world of the 1990's... It sucks that you can't specify the .VOC files per object, oppossed to the .WAX...

I would suggest the 70s, but you already have "unreality"...

I have my reasons for selecting the 90's... Lawyers and CEOs, for example...
