Has anyone tried to make building in DF?
Like one you can go in and climb on top of?
I would like to see how they did it.
i got an idea though.
1. make a subsector1 set second alt to 9
2. make anouther sector on a diffent level
3. adjoin one wall
4. then make 3 more sub sectors, U shape, and two to make a doorway, around our building. set floor alt 9
5. then place a 3do roof at second alt of subsector1
bam! a building that we can climb on and go into.

Well any entrance into the building would be best done by cutting out a piece of the roof by where you want the entrance on ground level, that piece will touch the ceiling/sky and will be a taller, unadjoined bit. Thus you can now place a door on the outside side of this new wall, at ground level.
SECBASE has you go up to the roof but has the entire roof surrounded by a high wall, which is my idea taken to the extreme (it's easier too).

Yeah, The_Mega_ZZTer is right, an unadjoined piece going to the sky is the only other simple way until DXL is done. Of course, using a 3do like you said would probably be better if it's a small building with open areas or higher ground around it. You just gotta be really careful to get the measurements right. Subsectors are tricky since their edges can't touch the parent sector's or another subsector's edges. Btw, if this is planned for normal DF, I'll warn you now, the house will be pretty buggy. Both 3do's and subsector-walls often flicker on many machines (all the computers I've had DF on), letting the player see through them at times.
There is one almost-perfect way though, involving adjoin triggers, as demonstrated by one of the showcase levels. It's very complicated and there's still a chance of the player seeing the unadjoined area while the door is open, but that's unlikely due to DF's slow and limited vertical field of view. You could try it if you're good with INF - the level is in DF-21's showcase section. I don't remember the exact name . . . something like "magical door" maybe. Good luck if you use it - I don't recall ever seeing it used before in a level

Yep, that's the one
I need to go check it out again myself sometime, it would be useful code to know. I'm a lot better at INF now than I was the last time I looked at it.
