I just downloaded TES II: Daggerfall from Bethesda's website, and after following their instructions about how to install it, I can't get it to run.

I put the game's DAGGER directory in C:\Daggerfall\, have C:\Daggerfall\ mounted in Dosbox as drive C, and have the CD mounted as drive D. So in Dosbox it looks like this now:
Code:
C:\DAGGER\dagger.exe, etc.
D:\install.exe, etc.

But when I run the game, it gives me this message and quits:
Quote:
ERROR: Looks like you inserted the wrong CD. Please insert your Daggerfall CD in your cdrom and try again.

Which is wierd, because I installed from the CD with no errors. Anybody know what the problem is? I'm gonna go check if I made some stupid mistake, but I thought I followed the directions exactly Confused

Btw, I didn't mount the drives each time I started Dosbox. I have all the mount commands saved in dosbox.conf, so I'm sure it isn't just a spelling error that's causing the game not to detect the CD.

When I run Daggerfall, I run a batch file called "df.bat". That batch file is nothing more than a command to run "fall z.cfg". I don't recall if the z.cfg is created by default, but here are the contents of mine:

Quote:
type dfall_huge
path c:\dagger\arena2\
pathcd d:\dagger\arena2\
fadecolor 0
mapfile d
rendergame 1
user 1
startMap 179
region 17
helmet 0
maxSpeed 200
controls betaplyr.dat
maps mapsave.sav

Make sure that "pathcd" is changed to reflect the folder where the CD contents are. If you do the huge install, you can set "pathcd" so that it matches "path", which is where the game is installed.
