The queue: updated 9-15-04- Open!
- Open!
- Open!
- Open!
OK, this is where you sign up to join the Open Project. It should work something like this:You post on this thread if you want to take a week-long turn at editing the Open Project GOB file. Post any dates that you know you can't take it (e.g. if you're on holiday or have exams). The person at the top of the queue gets priority, obviously.
I will edit your post and add the dates when your turn is most likely to be, so that you know it's your turn coming up. Once your turn has passed, your post will be deleted and you can post again to rejoin the queue. How it actually runs, though, tends to be fairly different. But we'll work around it.
Please don't post comments about the level or suggestions about how the Open Project is run on this thread - start a new topic or post on the thread relating to the latest version of the project! Thanks.
Let's see how this works out...

Well, it's been a week after the supposed 1-month point, yet I didn't notice. (and apparently, neither did you, or you sucessfuly hoped I wouldn't!) Perhaps this month-sized turn thing might have more merit, if say, y'know, people actually RETURNED the project in the whereabouts of the expiration of the turn time?
Oh, and I've copied and saved some old pages of Llyren's OP project page; I'll get them up in a few days, likely.

It would be more effective to if the person who had id for a month actually found time between plays and retreats and school to work at it, even when he found it hard becuase there was a very repetetive error that slowed progress to a halt. It could be very succesful if the said person had ANYTHING to show for their month.

Wow I'd not logged in for a few weeks. And I must say I'm utterly surprised to see someone expressing interest; I'd figured it'd all but died. I would've worked on it myself, but that would've felt kinda like cheating, with one person taking it for all those months.
At any rate, welcome to DF-21... Yes, if you'd like, I think you may have a "turn..." At least last anything was done with the OP, I was more or less "in charge," though that was quite some time ago. Somewhere around here I believe I have a copy of the latest version of the OP; either that, or it might even be uploaded on this site. I'll do a little looking around, and get back to you as soon as I can.

I don't know if there's work lurking on people's hard drives out there though.
Hmm... I don't even remember what the last I did with it was. For some reason, it didn't occur to me until now that it's quite possible I may have archived the most recent version; I know that I had taken to archiving each version of the OP that ran through my hands. Of course, that would be over on my old computer's hard drive, and it's been sitting unused, mostly in storage, for over half a year. Though perhaps I should take it out and boot it up to see what things look like on there. However, I THINK I recall that version, indeed, perhaps being the last one.

Taton humbly submits his mapping services.
I would LOVE to work on the Open Project.

I'll confess; I still have that other computer sitting unused. IRL things are in a bit of a tangle right now, though, so it might be a day or two at least before I can get the free time to actually hook it up and get it running to get anything off of it, though...

Sorry guys... To say the least, I kinda failed at that. Not long after that, I had a heck of a lot of real-life stuff on my plate, lots of problems, then I had to move, etc. etc... In short, that computer is currently sitting in a storage unit about half a mile from my apartment, and I lack a car with which to go pick it up. However, I'll try my hardest to see if I can get it out here otherwise, though I wouldn't get my hopes up too much for the neartime.

As long as it's been, why not just start a new Open Project?

'Cuz too much time and effort (not to mention a lot of history of this place) went into the project. If each sector were dated, it'd be like counting rings on a tree.
I thought it was cool because so many people are able to contribute to this and showcase different techniques and talents (although I didn't do much with my area). It would be interesting to see what eventually becomes of it.

Work could easily continue from the 26th October 2004 version (link above). We could always paste in Ntk's work if he manages to retrieve it.
Just post if you want it.

Is that possible, pasting in part of a different GOB? I didn't think it was possible using WDFUSE, but I'm sure it'd be pretty easy just doing it manually with Notepad. Just be sure not to continue work on any areas connected to Nottheking's sector, if he remembers where that is (even that can easily be fixed later though.)
Just out of curiosity, what did you build while you had it, Nottheking?

It was IMPOSSIBLE but theoretical to do it in Dark Forge, but I've done it with WDFUSE a few times.

Eh, I think that there'd been little done when I got it, and I'd already added the main section I kept working on, which I think was off of the north end of the main tram hub. I.e, it was intended to be a whole "marketplace" sort of area.
