With the influx of Jedi Knight posts on this forums, I thought it would bring much rejoicing the fact that the Jedi Knight Series is being released on Steam!

In the interview with Lucasarts, it is mentioned aside. Hopefully it'll include Dark Forces.

Oh... my... god...

Now hopefully they made an update for it to be playable on new machines, rather than old ones. This is some of the best gaming news I've heard in a long time.

Massassi thinks they just mean JO and JA. Oh well, we'll see.

Yeah just saw that on Massassi! I think this is front page news material!

I sent a tweet to lucasartsgames asking if DF will be a native port or DOSBox (I'm curious). They did do native ports of some of their older SCUMM titles.

So it'll be an all-new version of DF, this could be interesting.
I wonder will we have an influx of n00bs, that'd be so strange.

Doubtless it'll be the 3D accelerated version with dynamic lighting, advanced scripting engine and built-in editor that they've been sitting on since 1997.

I think it'll be interesting to see how much traffic we get within the next month or so. Updated or not though, I can finally buy a legal copy of the PC version of DF and Jedi Academy (I DO own the mac versions, but wanted the PC versions too).

I wonder if this version of DF will still be usable for DarkXL (assuming it doesn't already include the new features DXL is introducing).

No. If that were the case then about 80% of it's game library would not exist. Don't forget there is also D2D as the alternative.

The good news is that, if it's still DOSBox, it means it's still the same original executables, unmodified. Which means that you will not need to have Steam running to play those games. And it'll also be 100% compatible with DarkXL.

So since no changes were made to fix the DirectX problem with newer cards, I still have to play in regular mode rather than 3D accelerated (Which is fine, a least it works on my laptop Smile ). But since I have to do it this way, I have to use the backbuffer to memory which makes the animations for headwave really wonky, kinda like kyle had too much caffeine or something. Is there any way to fix that?

Edit: Never mind, I GOT 3D ACCELERATION TO WORK!!! (using the advanced graphics options) Very cool Very Happy

Actually there's only one renderer I think in the advanced options that is hardware accelerated, the rest are software...

What "newer 3D cards?" TBH, I never had issues running Jedi Knight with even my X800XT, though that's positively outdated by now.

All told, this is rather nice to see. This is actually, perhaps, the first time I've been tempted to re-buy games all over again. (actually, I never *DID* get JA...)

Actually I discovered that 3D acceleration ran fine to begin with, and what was causing graphical glitches was my sidebar in vista being on. Turned it off and it runs like a dream now.

Edit: My card is an Nvidia GeForce 9300 GS (Laptop)

Ah, yes, that. Vista can screw up almost anything if given the chance. Laughing

Massassi made a patch which works around bugs in newer video drivers by using a newer DirectX API to clear the zbuffer or something like that. Anyways supposedly it fixes all problems some people had with 3D acceleration in Jedi Knight... black screens, missing crosshair, missing force reticles...
