Screw Dark3D, it's probably not the kind of labor of love that DarkXL is. And from what you guys are saying it's region locked. Why so low?

Lucius got it right; we're just being sarcastic. It is my honest opinion that DarkXL is the best thing to ever happen to the Dark Forces community since the retail release of Dark Forces.
If you want a better understanding of what people really think of Mattias Weilander and Dark3D, read this Brief History of the Dark3D debacle. Because of Mattias' own actions, Dark3D will forever live in infamy. Any time you see a post speaking positively about Dark3D, look at the author's name. If the author's name isn't Mattias Weilander, it's virtually guaranteed to be sarcasm.
Alright, thanks. I was wondering why everyone was so gung-ho on this. I suspected foul play, but never sarcasm. Which is unexpected, because the internet is a great place for sarcasm. Especially forums. >_____>

Rats... My birthday has come and gone (32) and I've nothing to show for it but Brutal Legend (awesome!)
Quick question for Lucius... Will DarkXL be made available in Finland?

It was a Dark3D/Mattias reference. (unless you already know that and I'm actually missing your sarcasm)

though this is a real question, and I ask more out of curiosity more than anything else (seeing as I still own the original Dark Forces CD)
But would user made levels still be playable if you don't own a copy of Dark Forces? Actually I'd guess not because of the sprites and textures needed.

Theoretically, if the DarkXL source code and specs are opened up, then people could use it as a reference to create a Dark Force clone that could be used instead of the original game. See the "Freedoom" project which was started for Boom (one of the earliest and most influential Doom source port).
However, let's be honest, it's quite unlikely to happen. After all this time, Freedoom is still far from being finished, "Dave3D" (Duke Nukem) is dead, "Blasphemer" (Heretic) is in its early infancy, etc. Recreating a consistent collection of art assets (images, sounds, music, etc.) by a bunch of hobbyists is very difficult.

And slightly pointless seeing as you can pick it up pretty cheap on steam

Also Mattias wasn't Finnish, he was from next door in Sweden. I know because we used to have secret chats about how great it is not to be ignorant American butchers

The Dark Forces mod for JA has a bunch of assets that could be used to jump start such a "freedark" project.
