What? You must be joking.

CyberCraft Dark3D is going to be 100 times better when it is released.

Oh, that's right. I forgot. Indeed it's true, especially since he won't have to implement features for the decadent American audience.

I don't know what will be tougher, moving to Europe to play Dark3D when it releases, or figuring out how to divide my time between that and Duke Nukem Forever.

That totally made my day Laughing

Screw Dark3D, it's probably not the kind of labor of love that DarkXL is. And from what you guys are saying it's region locked. Why so low?

Don't worry, they are being sarcastic. Dark3D was never finished and has been abandoned years ago (long before I started on DarkXL). The author was an interesting character that will always be remembered on these forums... I'm sure others would be happy to fill you in if you want.

Lucius got it right; we're just being sarcastic. It is my honest opinion that DarkXL is the best thing to ever happen to the Dark Forces community since the retail release of Dark Forces.

If you want a better understanding of what people really think of Mattias Weilander and Dark3D, read this Brief History of the Dark3D debacle. Because of Mattias' own actions, Dark3D will forever live in infamy. Any time you see a post speaking positively about Dark3D, look at the author's name. If the author's name isn't Mattias Weilander, it's virtually guaranteed to be sarcasm.

Alright, thanks. I was wondering why everyone was so gung-ho on this. I suspected foul play, but never sarcasm. Which is unexpected, because the internet is a great place for sarcasm. Especially forums. >_____>

Yup. I'm the reason Americans won't be able to play Dark3D when it comes out.

Aha, so that was you! Sorry, the memory isn't as good as it once was. Must be getting old.

Rats... My birthday has come and gone (32) and I've nothing to show for it but Brutal Legend (awesome!)

Quick question for Lucius... Will DarkXL be made available in Finland?

As long as you have Dark Forces and internet access. ( I bet I'm missing the sarcasm but my answer is accurate Razz )

It was a Dark3D/Mattias reference. (unless you already know that and I'm actually missing your sarcasm)

though this is a real question, and I ask more out of curiosity more than anything else (seeing as I still own the original Dark Forces CD)

But would user made levels still be playable if you don't own a copy of Dark Forces? Actually I'd guess not because of the sprites and textures needed.

I'm afraid not. However this is probably desired from a legal standpoint.

Theoretically, if the DarkXL source code and specs are opened up, then people could use it as a reference to create a Dark Force clone that could be used instead of the original game. See the "Freedoom" project which was started for Boom (one of the earliest and most influential Doom source port).

However, let's be honest, it's quite unlikely to happen. After all this time, Freedoom is still far from being finished, "Dave3D" (Duke Nukem) is dead, "Blasphemer" (Heretic) is in its early infancy, etc. Recreating a consistent collection of art assets (images, sounds, music, etc.) by a bunch of hobbyists is very difficult.

Also Mattias wasn't Finnish, he was from next door in Sweden. I know because we used to have secret chats about how great it is not to be ignorant American butchers Smile

The Dark Forces mod for JA has a bunch of assets that could be used to jump start such a "freedark" project.
