Since getting DF up and running again I thought maybe I would try working on my level that I started oh so long ago. Problem: The CD that had the level on it has apparently degraded because it now reads as a blank disc.
Is there any chance that I sent a copy to anyone?

Well, I found it.
...
some things might be better left buried.
There WAS a second version that omitted the ship crash, used Fortress Quadrigon style music, and let you get all the way down to the 5th level in the lab, but I have no idea where it might be. Maybe it'll turn up one day too.
Until then, though, here's my unfinished piece that has a plot better suited to Star Trek than Star Wars, and steals gratuitous amounts of stuff from The Andromeda Strain and, y'know, competent level authors.
Marvel at its horribleness. Teleport down to levels 3-5 of the lab using [, ], and LANTFH and let the repetitive green, blue, and white texturing make you sick. Look at the horrible loading screen and cringe. Wonder how the Rebel ship embedded itself in the cliffside with no damage to the cliff. And of course enjoy my prepubescent voice at the start of the level as the Captain. Ridicule me completely. I deserve it.
Maybe someday I'll revisit this thing and try to make it... not snap. But no guarantees.
Download at your own risk.

So why not just change the texturing or something?

Oh, yeah. it wouldn't be that hard to fix it, I'm sure. But at the same time, I'd have to relearn WDFUSE and have the time to make the changes. Neither of which are possibilities I'm discounting at the moment.
The point just now was to have a bit of a laugh at myself and think, "Gee, look at the stuff I thought was a good idea back in Middle School."

The more I look at this the more I think maybe it can be fixed. The exterior just needs a little work and it is certainly playable. Then a bit of work to the lab, record some new voices and add a few puzzles...
...
I see 5 people downloaded the file. Honest thoughts, was there anything worth salvaging?

I wish I could remember. I may have downloaded it for my back-up disc (which has since been destroyed...) but I can't remember for the life of me if I checked it out or not. To be honest, as long as I've been here there are still a little under half of the levels that I still haven't played.
If I have time this weekend and switch partitions to work on my own project, I'll be sure to check it out.

ROFL
I just found it on my own disc and uploaded it to FileFront on August 6, so the odds that you have it on your own backup disc are really not very good .

Yeah, but when I made my back-up disc I made it about 6 years ago or later. Chances are it's still there if it's in good enough shape for me to still retrieve info from it. That poor little disc has been through a lot of hell though.

It wasn't bad. My one criticism would be to greatly reduce the cave section at the beginning. It is way too long and repetitive.
Also if you were able to pilot the boats it would be cool.
That reminds me - what was the name of the level where you could fly a speeder bike at the end. I think it was set on Hoth.

Barry, you're thinking of Ice world by Tim Smulders.
Anyway, I looked and, well, it had its moments. What little there was of the initial base wasn't too bad, but it was over rather quickly. I agree with Barry about the boats: realising that the lining was just due to a bobbing motion was a bit of a let down, especially when the bobbing looked rather unnatural when it was even noticable at all.
When it came to the ship, having it only accessible by secret area wasn't a good idea when it's implied you need to get into it to progress the mission. But if you eliminated the ship altogether, that's a moot point I guess.
With the labratory levels the monochromatic walls are a bit garish, true, but that helps with the sterile appearance of the area. You would want to break up the texture a little more though, and perhaps reorder the levels so the colours get darker and more threatening the further down the player goes.

I must not have it because I didn't see it on the disc (it wasn't destroyed!!).
Link?

Oh yeah, I did. Sorry, I meant to post about it a while ago but I was really busy.
Some parts of it were pretty cool, but other parts kind of killed it. For one, the incredibly long descent through the cave. Some rooms were also kind of hokey for lack of a better word, I've never been one to like real life objects like mops and paint buckets. But the overall concept and some areas were pretty interesting.

Yeah, obviously those sections needed to be added to. I planned to include a maze through the cave system - right now you only see the "correct" path - with some wildlife hanging around that might not like your intrusion into their living space.
As far as a pilotable boat, I'll be lucky if I even remember enough INF to complete the sound paging files and such that is necessary to complete things.
