I cant get the sound working on Dark Forces. IMUSE doesnt detect my sound card. I have an AMD Athlon 1ghz, 1gb ram, Windows 2000 advanced server and XP installed, Sound Blaster Live! 5.1, 54x CD ROM, 40gb hard disk. Evil or Very Mad

...but no Sound Blaster emulator.

Under more recent Operating Systems (such as XP), DOS can't access some hardware, such as the sound adapter. A Sound Blaster Emulator will redirect some of the resources, and allow DOS to access the sound.

I believe that the above is more or less correct... I don't have an emulator for sound (don't need it under the ancient ME), so some of the other people, such as Mattias, would be far better at reccomending an emulator, although VDM Sound comes to mind...

To get sound to work in Dark Forces under XP, Follow these steps:

Download VDM Sound from http://ntvdm.cjb.net/

Next, set-up your sound card within iMUSE (the setup utility in your Dark directory) to be
a straight Soundblaster, not a 16, 32 or AWE

Right-click on Dark in your directory and choose Run with VDMS and away you go
