Welcome to the new DF-21 forums. We've moved to phpbb. As you can see, everything's a bit messy at the moment as I'm still tweaking stuff back to the traditional DF-21 look and feel. We will have lots of new features to play with though, so please try stuff and post your thoughts in the Feedback forum.

Thanks!

Nice, I always said we should switch to phpBB2, NOW DIDNT I? Good to see things may be coming together again finally... so what exactly happened with NoMonthlyFees?

My understanding is that the server that hosted df-21 had again crashed, only this time they did not have/make a backup (or maybe their backup server crashed, too.) And their attitude is "well, hope you have a backup (actually, we don't care if you do or not) because it's lost and gone and we can't and won't help you." I've looked at some opinions of NoMonthlyFees over a e-pinions. When they switched the way they do things last year, things (especially customer service) really went into the crapper.

Fenwar has said that even if NMF did give an indication that they would honor the lifetime account that has already been paid for, he is planning on keeping DF-21 as far away from them as possible. They're too unreliable.

Yes, Taylor, the switch was overdue really. As it happens, I'd already been preparing this site (since the September Arrow August pants). I was going to wait until everything was perfect to unveil it, but as Matt has described, NMF decided I should bring that forward.

The domain name will point here soon. It isn't yet due to Network Solutions also being difficult; I am the administrative contact for the domain df-21.net, and yet their new online domain manager won't let me change the nameservers. Lunacy. So I have to politely put up my hand and ask them to change them for me. Which they've said they'll do. When they have time.

I'll move the static content once the domain points here. Which it will.

I bought the NoMonthlyFees account during the height of the internet bubble and honestly expected them to be out of business by now.

...and believe it or not, NoMonthlyFees have actually given us a fresh account on another server! (No backup of our data though).

They're still alive. DF-21.net is not going back there but we've now got 200MB of free space to play with. At present I'm going to use it as a backup server; if we think of anything useful to do with it (parking a few domains) I'm sure we can put it there.

We are all so grateful to the present (and past) Keepers of this site for seeing it through its techical headaches. This site is one of my most-visited and all-time favs. Keep up the excellent work!!! Greg

Huh. Who would have thought. A backup server might be useful (especially since DF-21.org sometimes goes out, temporarily.) But you're right, put nothing critical there.

I'm happy to say, I got here today using the df-21.net domain name! (It hasn't worked for me until now.)

(I'm not happy to say that MY server seems to be down for some reason, and I'm out of town, so thedarktide.com will be out of commisson today.)

And my gratitude goes out to Fenwar and anyone else helping to keep the site alive.

So much to get used to.

:: Fiddles with some of the options ::

This situation makes me think of a flash flood that took out the community. Now we just have to wait and see who lived through it. I did. (It's me, James Milne)

I'm the flash flood victim who curled up in the fetal position until this place was fixed.

Wow, thank goodness! I bought a friend a copy of Dark Forces and was afraid I wouldn't be able to point him to df-21 when he got it. Smile
Plus, I've been dying to post my stupid levvel screenshots.

Anyway, I'm glad df-21 is okay and being rebuilt! A pat on the back for the admins!

Query:

What about DF-21 hosted sites?

...and I'm glad you spelled colour the right way.

They should still be available as df-21.org was unaffected by the current crisis.

Although as I type, I can't actually access it... old skool embarrasment

Did anyone checked to see if any DF-21 pages were on Google's cache?

http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:www.df-21.net

It's been updated now, so stuff from NoMonthlyFees should be gone.
