All right, forgive me if I sound like a total idiot.
I've never actually done DF editing before but would like to learn how. What's the best way to start? Also, what are the best tools and tutorials to download to get me started? Can someone please help me?
Oh, yeah...the downloads in the editors section aren't working right now? Is there anywhere else I can look?

Try: http://www.code-alliance.ca/
They make WDFUSE, the (in my opinion) best editor.

Yeah...I have zero expereince with DF editing...I was going to post this same topic here...so basically, all I would need to create DF levels is the CA editor? There's a lot of editing downloads on this site...what are they for?

They have alot of different tools for different games. You should stick with WDFUSE until you learn some of the DF terms, then you'll be able to figure out what some of those other programs do.

The best way to start is to download WDfuse, pretty much the standard editor, and start playing around with stuff. Read the tutorials, ask for help, try and work things out. It's actually amazingly simple.

WDFUSE is the perfect tool yet for making DF levels... It's one of the few editors I know of that is precise/powerful, but still quick & easy. I even has tools to convert most of the other add-on stuff you might want at a later point (such as new textures and LFD materials). I found that the tutorial was a bit redundant, as I had already figured WDFUSE out by the time I downloaded it (the tutorial, of course, not the editor).
As for the other stuff, I also reccomend you make sure you get the "WDFUSE common files". It includes other stuff that will help you learn DF editing faster than you could without it, as well as the "unnoficial DF specs" which should answer 99.999% of all DF editing questions.
