The Inner Flame is my most recent piece of music, an acoustic piece written for Flute, Fiddle, and Piano. It is one part in a Celtic-inspired, multi-movement piece of work I am working on called A Circle of Stones. I think the old Irish influences are fairly evident, though it is certainly filtered through me and not actually authentic Irish music. The ending of The Inner Flame is a bit abrupt, since it will segue into another piece which I have not yet written.
The Inner Flame (19K)
Hopefully, anyone who chooses to listen to this has good set of general midi voices, since this is only a midi file. (On the plus side, it's a small download.) Some friends of mine and I have been practicing this and some other pieces in the set, and I'll hopefully have a real recording of it, someday.
Merry Christmas and enjoy!

It's very good. You did a decent job with the violin. Synthesizing string instruments in midi can be a bitch.
The melodies are nice, what music in particular inspired you, or did you just make this off the top of your head? I know you said you'd studied some Irish traditional music, and instruments like the bodhrán and uileann pipes (can you remember how to pronounce those? )

Bough-rawn and ill-inn pipes.
Some of the melodies are of the top of my head, some have more direct influences, like the traditional tune Morrison's Jig (which I've heard used in several places by different people.) One of my bigger overall influences in this project would be Bill Whelan of Riverdance fame (I have most if not all of his soundtracks/albums.) I've also been listening to the group Gaelic Storm, who played the lower decks dance music in Titanic - they do a lot of traditional Irish tunes. And I've been also listening to some music of 17th century Irish composer Turlough O'Carolan (or Toirdhealbhach Ó Cearbhalláin, if I want to be fancy.)

Is that the same pronunciation that "rawn" refers to?

Last week I had the premiere performance of this piece. I've made an mp3 of that recording, with my friends Amy and Meredith on violin and flute, and myself on piano.
The Inner Flame (6.2 MB)
It was a pretty good performance. There were a few minor glitches, but nothing major. That's how live performances go sometimes.
The midi file has also been updated to include the new ending.
