From other phpbb setups I've seen, threads of a few hundred posts still work. At least, I think that's what I remember.

I believe www.jedi.net uses the same type of forum (looks about like the same thing) and I've seen threads of a thousand posts.

Hehehe I've seen a 49 page thread that I post on... it's called the "Never ending Story", it's a story post thingy that never ends hehe... it's been working quite well, our forum doesn't like it having that many pages, we're gonna close it and make a new thread after 50 pages 
I've also seen a 137 page thread (that forum is more optimized for insane page threads) that all you have to do is post something obvious about the person who posted last O_o.

pimprig.com had a Babe Thread where we posted pics of scantily clad women and it go almost 80 pages, and it was started a year ago and people are still replying

Yeah, It is true. I wouldn't classify my self as a geek though...

You want stress, I'll give you stress. I have unfortunately discovered that my vision is slowly deteriorating. The scary thing is I DON'T KNOW WHY. Even the Neurologist, optomotrist, and family doctor couldn't figure out what's up. It went from double vision, to photosensitivity, to what is currently all of those plus weird spots like after you look into a light that won't go away. WHAT IN GOD'S NAME, IS HAPPENING TO ME!!??

Splitting a topic is basically moving a set of posts on one topic to a new thread, usually when that thread has gone off the original topic.
