Great level, but doesn't compare to modern classics.

I disagree Barry. I think the Great Bounty Hunt is one of the greatest levels off all time, in the top five. I must of played it so many times. The atmosphere is just incredible, like you really are in a legend, in a far off space city, with a purpose. To me, the greatest thing about this level is that there is a romantic feeling of being in some science fiction world, an artistry that you are really there. I do love the Great Bounty Hunt.

Ok it's a great plot and it's great fun to play, and the flying crow is spectacular.
But the texturing is 2nd rate, and in parts messy. There are many level around now like The Dark Tide series, Harkov, Beyond Glory etc. These missions are just on an ever so slightly higher plateau than this mission.

True, true Barry. But to me that special believable atmosphere more than makes up for any shortcomings. And some technical aspects were superb - link the band playing. The figures were moving(unlike Harkov) and on the ceiling there was a moving light! Incredible, I went up to that platform and I felt I was really in concert. Except for one thing - no moving civilians. Grrrr - it is not very realistic when the only creatures that move are those that shoot at you. How wonderfull it would be to have had the room filled with couples dancing to the music. I do hope that someone today will implement this idea.

Sheldon have you played Icky not real level funtime by Tom Resnick? It has some superb dancing waxes that I plan to use in the open project.
What was so special about the special edition of this level anyway?

Hey, I will try that level! As for the SE, it fixed the loading bug. The Old Bounty Hunt would usually crash during the loading phase, except if you had a special DF DOS boot disk.
Barry Brien wrote:
Yeah I remember that - not so much a special edition as a working edition.
Matt H wrote:
I think the shuttle moving at the beginning was also new to the SE.
The music was different too, I think.

A real SE would be fantastic - with voice actors and civilians and all that type of stuff. Plus textured versions of the ships.
Which reminds me, Matt would you still happen to have a copy of my millenium falcon 3do?
Matt H wrote:
I might. I'll ltry to find it.

Got it. Cheers Matt.
Maybe a team should look into re-doing this level at some stage. I'd be up for it.

How did Tom come up with those dancing civilians? Where were they generated? 3D? I've been toying with Poser 4 to do this, but I still have never tried it. My idea was to have a WAX of a dancing couple that has their feet moving and bodies swaying while the WAX frames constantly rotate as a VUE moves them around the room. Imagine a room full of such WAXes!

Yeah!
It'd be PERFECT........ If you were a hacker who wanted to slow someone's computer to a grinding HAULT.
Barry Brien wrote:
AlexG, it'd be fantastic, and it wouldn't slow you down at all.

1st: I'm not telling how I got them.
2nd: Yeah, I'm makin' a few more for use in DF levels. Might release a Zip file of them for the download section.

I loved the BH: SE, but for some stupid reason it keeps crashing on me anytime I face off with bossk or use a big weapon in the game. Peter Klassen is good at making classic DF levels I believe (ex: Condition Red).
