After yet another crash, I reinstalled DF again and found I had the same sound issues as before - namely that with the imuse setting of Soundblaster Pro, I was able to get sounds but not music. (I've made sure Midi was enabled and the volume was set but still no dice...)

But here's the weird thing that might provide a clue to what is going wrong. I clicked on the advanced menu option and when I did, it listed my digital sounds card as the Soundblaster Pro but under music, it said 4-OP FM. And even stranger, when I went to change it to Soundblaster Pro, this wasn't even on the list of options. (I tried all of the other options - most just froze things up and none actually got me sound.)

So I'm not sure what this all means but it seems to be suggestive as to why I can't get music even though I set my card to Soundblaster Pro in the standard menu.

Do any of the tech gods out there have an inkling of what this means? Could this help explain why some of us can't get the music to work?

Sorry, can't help you. Just thought this should be moved to General Discussion.

Yes, we do, and we could, but with your attitude, I'm not interested.

That was a little harsh Confused

I analyzed that post many times and found no traces of anything wrong in there. All he was asking for was some help.

But I'm afraid I can't help either. I would help if I could though Wink

Evil or Very Mad Attitude? What attitude? I didn't have one until your pointless snarl.

I posted this because I thought it was new info that might help solve the perennial XP sound/music problem. On the other hand, I should have seen that it would be an irresistable temptation for you, Mattias, to blowhard yet again. God, I'm so sick of hearing you pontificate on everything under the sun. If you don't think it relevant, fine. If you do but don't want to help, okay. Just shut up about it if you don't have anything constructive to say. Now that, sir, is attitude. Twisted Evil

I'm sorry for all of you who just had to endure my venting but its been years coming and I can honestly say, it sure felt good.

Get a mac emulator and DF for mac maybe? Windows XP has a big problem (From my experience when I had one) with Soundblaster support for older games. Especially C&C Red Alert. Maybe the perpetually unhelpful Microsoft can lend some answers. Maybe one of us can get Bill Gates so mad that he keels over and sells out to Steve Jobs.
