This website is very nostalgic. I was the first one to make the DF level FROGMAN back in the early days of DF, when I orignally played the game. I made a certain GOB that I never did post during the time I made FROGMAN, it was basically a building with 3 floors that were open (one on top the other); and you could walk around it completely. There were also adjacent buildings around it as well. If you remember the city levels in DOOM 2, it was basically like that but the floors on the different levels didn't have to be stacked at different sides. I don't know how I did make the levels (w/DarkForge) open and one-on-top the other but I was able to pull it off somehow. Anyway, is anyone interested in a GOB like that? I probably wouldn't do it, but it would be nice to find out other player's opinions.

I tried something like that in Nervous Breakdown.

Your NB GOB was great; I especially liked your staircase.
Try to remember the 1st level of Dark Forces (or the Secret Base), and remember the outside area of the main building, there is a single floor above that is exposed to view in the middle. Now imagine two more floors like that (one on the bottom, and one on the top), and that is what my building sort of looked like from the outside. I even think it was the same height. If you know of any DF structure that looks like that, than please tell me.

I think I understand what you're saying. If I've got this right, that's a hell of an achievement. How did you do it?

It's a moment like this when I want to kick myself for erasing that GOB. I used DARKFORGE with the Mac then instead of WDFUSE for the PC, but now I play DF on the PC. However, I forgot (since it's been so long) how even to use DARKFORGE. So that means I would have to re-learn the entire editing process from scratch.
But I can recollect a few details for people who may want to attempt this GOB structure. I think it had to do with creating multiple sectors, one on top the other, with the exact same shape that were fitted to a sort of rectangular hole in the playing field. Meaning, there was an orginal sector that I made that had a sort of donut hole in the middle of it; but since the donut hole was basically a perimeter line, I was able to divide that line into smaller segments wherever I needed to--thereby making it possible to have future doorways in the line. Then I added sectors at three different levels--the kind that you use to make the player think he is falling down or climbing up to a level that is attached to the playing field but really isn't.
Now the first level and sector, or the wall that is basically the shell of the DONUT HOLE, went all the way to the ceiling. This wall forms the outer appearance, so there couldn't be a roof. The bottom floor was easy to create (I think I got this right)since the 1st level sector was able to be seen in the EDITING process on the same level. For the two upper floors that weren't seen on the same map, I was able to use DARKFORGE to connect their openings (in their particular sectors)to the openings of the donut hole shell. Meaning, for each doorway on the two different levels, the two joints were connected to the two joints of the shell wall that I pre-planned, and they didn't each have to be the same size doorways either. I had open areas that you could jump down out of one-on-top-the-other.
Now if you ask me how I was able to connect different map level joints with others, I cannot remember. All I know is that I was able to make a rectangular builing with DARKFORGE that went 360 degrees around and had open spaces and sniper holes and staircases, etc.. I remember that I did a lot of tinkering with the map before I was able to get the open spaces to work perfectly. Now I don't know if WDFUSE would be able to do this, but I would be very happy to see someone try it out. That GOB level I made was the best damn 'city block level' I ever played (with open levels and sniper holes, and even a arched bridge you could walk over and walk under, all on various buildings surrounding the main one) in any of the DF era games in an urban environment. It would be great if someone would try to recreate such an environment for a Dark Force level.

If we can do it on Dark Forge, it can most likely be done on WDFUSE without a doubt.
