Well, Lyren seems to have been AWOL for almost a year now... I'm attempting to take his place for the time being, but no one's bothered to take a turn. If you want one, take it... Just give a reasonable date of when the project's coming back.

Well, I might volunteer, but I'm lending my pretty face to some cutscenes for Tiberian Sun and school is starting, plus I have Op:Cobra.

Well, whenever you want to take it, post here. The list in the sticky thread is obviously non-functional, since none of the mods have touched it...

Hey, if you need a hand with resurrecting the Open Project (specifically: fixing the aforementioned sticky thread), gimme a private message; I'd be more than willing to help out... it'd be great to see this project back on its feet.

I don't know what exactly The Open Project is all about or what I would have to do, but I might be able to do some stuff. If it is just simple editing and nothing too complicated (I'm still a beginner) I could find some time to help out.

Bah. We're still missing the Open Project website; That's something else we'll have to try to dig out (Fenwar mentioned something about having backups of the OP, so he might have it saved).

Anyway, The Open Project (OP for short) is a single DF mission that is a joint effort by anybody who wants to work on it. Though we're still working on trying to bring it back, it's good to see somebody new interested in it. If you want to take a turn, post at this topic.

There are a few rules, of course... A turn lasts but a week; you are given 48 hours at the beggining of your turn to confirm that you've downloaded it; else your turn is skipped. At the end of your turn, you also have 48 hours to upload the project, else your turn is skipped, and the next person in line goes immediately...

What else... Oh. Please don't change anything that's already exisitng without getting the permission of the author of that area first. Most sectors in the OP are labeled with the author's name. You may add new textures if you've including them at some part of the level. However, any other new components should be left out until the level editing is complete, in order to save webspace/download time (any new non-texture components added will be removed).

If I've forgotten anything, somebody remind me.

Is the OP sent as a GOB file or a WDP file? I have only been able to open WDP files with WDFuse. Is there a way to load a GOB in that program? Am I even in the ballpark with that question? Why do I read things, I just get more confused Embarassed

First, let me tell you you aren't as confused as you thought. Yes, the OP is sent as a GOB (else it wouldn't have any other components with it). To open it, click on "new project". Then, select "Import from User (GOB) file". Next, select the Open****.GOB file. That will open up the OP, and copy the entire contents in the right place. When you're done editing, just hit the Gob/Test button in WDFUSE, then copy the .GOB file it created in your DARK directory, and upload it! Hopefuly that wasn't too confusing.

You're welcome. Go ahead an make a post at the thread I mentioned if you want a turn, though it might be a while until I find a copy of the latest version for download...

Is there any type of storyline I should try to follow? I just ran through the level and saw some areas that may have been left to add on to (for instance there are three elevators on floor 3 that lead to nowhere), but I didn't really know if someone had an idea for that area and didn't finish it. Anyway, the big thing is to know the storyline so that I have an idea of what types of areas would make sense.

I think there is a general storyline that people have as an idea... something about Kyle doing something... >_< I forget. But we want to make this level as big as possible, even if areas don't fit into the storyline as long as they are "spacestation"-like they'll work.

As far as I remember, the storyline involved Kyle Katarn running through the station to stop some sort of Imperial transfer operation. As for each area, read the Open Project .txt file, and examine the sectors in the editor, to find out who's responsble for what area. For example, if you want to place a shop, I'd reccomend taking one of the booths I installed in the bazaar at the north end of the station.

Thanks guys. I found your bazaar NTK but I probably won't be doing that. The more I look at the map, the more possibilities I see...it's kind of exciting what can become of this project. I currently have my eyes on a section of real estate at the south end of the train loop, but we'll see Smile

If anyone else has the OP, do you see a hotel anywhere? I saw mention of such a thing in the text file, but I have not come across it in the level as of yet. That might be something I'd do if one isn't already there (or if one isn't enough - there needs to be competition! Wink ).

You do mean upload to DF-21 right? I don't have any way of hosting it as I do not have a website. If the answer is yes, do I need to do anything else after doing that (like make a post about it) or do I just have to hit the button and upload it?

I'd say it'd be best to just upload the file, then post a quickie "I just uploaded the file! Enjoy!" message here on the forums. That should do, really.

It would also be best to compress the file in zip format if you have a suitable utility (or Windows XP).
