Yes, there are militant extremists from all sides... Hopefully, this won't result in an invasion force being sent over there, too.

Yes, allow the Palestinians to murder our citizens, good call.

What do you imply by that? Send in an over-sized storm force? You know that American troops are dying in Iraq almost every single day. Personally, I don't feel that invasion forces are as effective as the politicians have touted them, as Vietnam and Gulf II have shown...

Am I the only one who thinks the UN should just make a big-arse standing army and put the Middle East under martial law? Very Happy

I'm curious as to why we are allowing our soldiers to die at the rate of about one a day. Are we not paying attention over there or what?

I believe that the coalition forces were/are completely unprepaired for the next-to-impossible taks they are sent out on.

On that subject, here's today's dose of the death toll in Iraq:

http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/10/17/sprj.irq.main/index.html

I believe that the coalition troops have been shoved into a losing situation, and that the only way to save them is to withdraw them. Unfortunately, that would not look good on the reccords of the president and other top commanders, so they won't do it.

In other words, the troops are dying out there, because the people at the top are too afraid to say that they messed up, because doing so would certainly cost Bush his re-election.

Even though it is wrong for anyone to die, the death toll in Iraq points at the war being a success. Generals predicted before the war that hundreds of soldiers would have died in the first few DAYS. However over the whole time we've been in Iraq, we've only lost about 150 soldiers. This points to it being a successful situation.

Anyways, were still in a lose-lose situation. If we stay in Iraq, we get told that weve failed and that were evil and etc.

If we leave, Iraq would likelyfall into anarchy until another dictator comes along.

P.S.: I dont want to sound heartless about the dying thing, but it does make a valid point

The invasion wasn't costly in terms of lives, no; that doesn't make it a success.

I also believe that, just because they weren't US troops, the Iraqi civilians also mattered. A few links below say something about the civilian death toll:

http://www.csmonitor.com/2003/0522/p01s02-woiq.html

http://www.alternet.org/waroniraq/2003/05/000902.html

http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/special/iraq/1946360

All of the above suggest somewhere around the 10,000 range. Personally, when the civilian death toll exceeds the military death toll (for boths sides), there's a problem. As far as the number of dead Sadaam troops, the number is assuredly lower than the civilian death toll, considering the number taken prisoner.

Oh, and here's an interesting (if somewhat humorous) after-war quiz:

http://home.iitk.ac.in/student/vvaish/tr2xhac/nph-proxy.cgi/000101A/http/www.zmag.org/shalomquizi.htm

I got 18/18, just to show how American I am. (you be the judge...)
