|
|
Hey, i just tried opening both DF BM converter and DF FME WAX converter in OS X Panther... and they failed. First it said "select Dark Forces Data Folder", so no big deal- it always says this- so I did and it said it can't find the preferences file, or sometimes "bad prefs file". I fear they might not run in the latest classic mode. Does anyone have an existing preferences file for each of these apps? I could maybe try to put them in my Classic System folder to substitute. If it doesn't work I am screwed.
My only other option to combat all my G5/OS X incompatibilities might be to run Virtual PC, and then a PowerPC emulator inside that. Weird as that sounds- but a G5 compatible VPC isn't even out yet, so there is another problem!
And please don't suggest I use those yucky 2DF/DF2 utilities in VPC. I don't like em.

Or a 68040 emulator. I'm not sure if any DF utilities are PPC-only. There's an OS X version of Basilisk II, so you wouldn't need VPC.
Other than that, buy a real Mac you lazy SOB!

Thanks Geoff.
It turns out there was nothing wrong with the preferences. It was a problem with the DF Data Folder. Back when I was editing in MacOS 9.0.1, I was able to choose any DF Data folder I wanted, whether on the hard drive or not. Now it seems I am forced to choose one from either the CD or in this case a .dmg file. Problem solved! Thanks.

Good to hear it worked...yeah I always use the CD disk image. Guess that was the issue after all.

OK, here is a weird thing...
Sometimes when I try to locate the Data folder, the mounted disk image won't show up as a choosable option on the desktop, even though it really is mounted. Damn. I don't know what the hell is going on now.

Hmmm that is weird... I made a disk image in OS 9 so it's a .img instead of the new .dmg. That way I figure OS 9 apps like DF can maybe deal with it better.

Hmmm.... maybe I should try all of this on my G4. That way I don't have to switch to my G3 all the time.

Maybe I'll try making an .img file instead.
