Hey....I'm using VDMSound to get audio to my Dark Forces under Windows XP. Music works fine, audio works, but all of the sounds seem to be clipped. They play pretty goofy....somebody's speech in a way overlaps itself. Midfile, it skips ahead in the file and weird stuff like that. Like, somebody will say "Stop Rebel scum!" and it comes out sounding like "Sto-bel um!" except that you can hear the rest of the letters playing at the same time as the new part that it's skipped ahead to. Like, at the same time you're hearing the "bel" you're hearing the "p" and the "Re", and at the same time as the "um" you're hearing the "sc".
I'm not sure if that made any sense. Anybody ever encountered this before? Any ideas?

Yes, I've encountered the same thing with VDMSound, but don't have a good explanation. This effect usually happens when the software sound engine's internal clock isn't exactly the same as the clock of the soundcard, but I don't know if that's the case here.

Custom VDMS config that should help. Unzip in your Dark dir and run dark.bat.
Or if you have VDMS launchpad, all you need to do is set the Adlib and SoundBlaster devices to use a Wave device instead of DirectSound. Problem fixed.
