Not a week goes by now without someone posting a question in the forum about how to install DF. In 95% of those cases, the answer is found in the installation guide here on DF-21. Unfortunately, most people don't seem to bother reading it before posting their questions.
I therefore propose that we add in the general forum a sticky topic on installing DF on modern OSes, pointing to the installation guide.

I am definitely in agreement with that. Let's hope Matt K, Jackson, Scape Goat (see, you're not last this time!) or Fenwar will see this; they'll be able to make a sticky topic in the "General Discussion" forum, where the vast bulk of these questions wind up...

That is an excellent idea, Mattias. I'll post a brief (but likely not final) sticky topic in General Discussion in just a few.

looks good - I'd suggest a similar (or identical if PHPBB can mirror it, or maybe locked & with a link to the GD topic if not) topic in Editing/Levvels as that's the first forum on the list. Just to make sure we don't miss anyone.

I'd further suggest the sticky introduction topic gets locked, so it won't be cluttered with questions or comments, but just contain the single introductory message by Jackson.
Instead, I think it's better if feedback on that topic is written in this thread, and if they feel it is needed only the moderators are allowed to add information to the sticky topic.
That way, the introduction topic will be easier to read for beginners, in that they won't have to first read the message and then browse through four hundred comments on it to see if there's anything important further down in the thread.
