If by "read" you mean "view", try this: http://df-21.net/downloads/utilities/view3do.zip

Or if you can make sense of the gibberish (well, it's actually semi-english) you can open up the .3DO file in Notepad or the like. (Right click, "Open With...")

No. Fish was working on a 3do editor once upon a time. Looked great too. What's up Fish?

Yes, occasionally I still write a few new lines for it but there's still sooo much work to do on it. I would have to write a new engine but never get myself to do it. Obviously it will be my grandson who will have to finish it. So it should be ready approximately at the same time as the International Space Station. Very Happy

Regarding the 3DOs, does anyone know where to find Mattias' 3DO plug-in for Lightwave (mentioned in the other thread too)? Since dark3d.df-21.net seems to be down.

I'm not at all sure if you'll find this helpful but I've constructed all of my 3DOs from scratch using notebook paper. The 3DOs are simply text files that can be viewed and edited in Notebook.

If you look in the download section, there is a tutorial by Frank Krueger. (It isn't particularly comprehensive but it's what I used to start out.)

The DF engine is so primitive that you can't make a very complicated 3DO without it going loopy anyhow so handplotting it isn't as insane as it may sound. It's just slightly more difficult than sinking that photon torpedo in the Death Star. Laughing

What about blasting the Millenmium Falcon out of the sky with your phasors set on maximum strength? Razz

Anyway, the polygon engine applet in Dark Forces' Jedi-engine is possibly the least powerful of all, save for perhaps the Underworld engine. (used in Origin's 1992 Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss) No texture filtering... ugh. Also, textures aren't that well anchored, can't be scaled, and surfaces that AREN'T quadrilaterals will help the game to slow down incredibly.
