One of my levels is nearly done, and needs only enemy placement and some more INF to finish it off in playable form. There are however 2 more things needed:
1. a large sky BM (128+ x 512) with a planet on the lower half and stars on the top; if the horizontal area can take it a sun on one side and a moon on the opposite side would be nice. The colouring doesn't matter, as long as it's high quality in secbase.pal.
2. a briefing. I can get the text sorted in relatively short order, but I'll need someone who can make the actual files for me.

If anyone can get either of these done sometime soon please PM and I'll reply with more details as soon as I can. Full credit will be given in the readme file, of course.

Have you checked out Allen Newman's Mac DF Briefing Kit? It's on thedarktide.com somewhere. If that doesn't work out for you or you are too lazy, send me a message and maybe I can help out. I made my last briefing in Adobe Illustrator. I still have the file, I just have to reinstall Newman's Katarn PDA font and I can probably rework it.

Also, it's a good bet that the sky BM would work out better if it was larger than 128 x 512 pixels.

Yeah, 128 x 512 is the minimum size, larger would be way better.
I didn't realise making briefings on a Mac was possible, I'll see if I can work that one out myself; it'd be great if someone could help with the sky texture though as I'm utterly useless when it comes to any kind of graphics work on a computer.

Okay, well I would need to know more about the level's location to make a sky.

It's essentialy just a small Imperial space station in orbit around a planet. The station itself is circular, with a surrounding ring connected to a central column and plenty of views out of windows into space.
I'll see if I can get it sent over to you (the address at darktide.com is still valid, isn't it?) after finishing a couple of more INF sequences.

Oh, gee why don't I just give you my my sky from The Dark Tide III? Oh, wait...no I won't. Actually, it should give me a head start on how it should look though. And yeah, it is thedarktide.com.

Which programs would you use to make the briefing graphics? I've been trying to use Appleworks, but it doesn't seem to be able to pick up the Katarn PDA font (I've put it in library/fonts).

I've had some problems with Katarn PDA too... Font Book in OS X didn't recognize it. I pulled out ResEdit and messed around with the font ID setting but that didn't work either. Font Book didn't even load it for Classic. Is this a System 7 era font?

Yeah, I found out recently that the font is useless in OS X. Back when I used to use it in OS 9.0.1 it appeared under Helvetica 9 point. It looks like the possibilities are to either get a PC user to do it or go with another font. I am on my PC now but I have never used it to work with fonts. All my graphics are done on the Mac.

Cheers Patrick!
As it doesn't look like this briefing can be done on a Mac are there any PC users willing to do the briefing? I've already got the text done, so it's just a matter of making a proper briefing out of it along with an objectives screen.
As an aside, how do I get the objectives screen updated once an objective is completed?

That would involve the .GOL file and some related .INF statements using the "complete" command. Best to read Jereth Kok's tutorials:
