*Faints*

Good Job Patrick. Sometimes I feel like it would be worth paying money to play DTII. This is one of those moments. Keep up the good work!!!

<neo>Whoa.</neo>

Not so much at the screenshots themselves, but at the fact that it might actually be released. I only regret that the Common Gamer won't be able to play it without complicated emulation software.

Does this mean you were unable to see them or are you just expressing total astonishment?

I think at this point both The Dark Tide III and IV .GOB files stand at about 20mb each- and that's without Matt H's cutscenes.
I have built a hell of a lot, but I am taking a break for a couple of weeks while I finish up a contest entry for Jedi Academy.

How much do the GOB files compress down to? Barry Brien mentioned that there's some form of compression utility included with DF somewhere that really cuts away the size of things. Couple that with a good .RAR compression utility, and I wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing would fit on a floppy disk. (not that I know where any of my floppies are... USB disks are much better)

Nottheking, that's BM compression you're thinking of.

Speaking of compression, that reminds me.

The latest version of my Dark Forces level manager can keep mods zipped until they are needed. Smile Zipping works really well with GOBs 'cause they're mostly text data, which was what ZIP was originally made to compress.

Link is in my sig if anyone wants a closer look.

*******WARNING! PIMP ALERT***********

Well, the GOBs zips down to around 4.5 mb, but the more remarkable issue about its size is in how it compares to the original DF components. The DF assets total about 30.4 mb (minus cutscenes). This is at least some indicator of the scale of the thing, especially for only 3 levels.

So when the missions for DF are finished, there will be 8-9 "levels" in total, and easily over 100mb in content. This is quite a realistic estimate.

I always thought of it on a grand scale, almost like it was Dark Forces 1.5, a middle game between Dark Forces and Jedi Knight (chronologically it does occur there as well). When finished it will include gameplay that is probably more than half of what was in Dark Forces and have proportionately far greater original content. This was the goal, my grandiose scheme... to be the one series of levels that was almost a legitimate addition to Kyle Katarn's story.

I know I know, I'm just trying to be helpful. Keeping your Dark Forces GOBs compressed is a great way to save diskspace if you have a gig of them like I used to.

Yes, it is fairly close. Barry helped me out with some great effects, and Matt finished up and important WAX enemy. I have to talk to Matt and see how his schedule is for working on cutscenes. I also just finished my Jedi Academy contest level, so I can now resume my DF work.

I saw it's done, but the screenshots in the Map Reviews fora aren't working. Looks like there's some stiff competition!

My, it IS getting close to done, it seems. What is this about the contest level? Where can it be found? This is your Nightfall MP level, right?

Nice work man! Looks more like something you would see in a Myst game. Very very nice shots.

Wow! Way above the usual JA quality, even with a limit in textures. I look forward to the day when you decide to make a SP level.

Well, if I get my act together, that SP level will be The Dark Tide V.

Just saw your JA screenshots. That's a fantastic job you've done there, Patrick! Now I just imagine how long it would take me to build a JA trilogy considering it will have taken me 9 years to complete the Archangel series.

Woah woah. You can't say it was completed when you haven't finished Archangel 3 yet Razz

Now, if I played JA MP, I would play that level. Unfortunately, I don't.
