I installed VirtualPC on my MAC and never got it to work adequately. Meaning no copy/paste from one environment to the other, and it was so slow that I can say it was not practically usable.
I see however no reason to use VPC to run Dark Forces. It works fine under XP !
And there is a comment from a guy saying he prefers to run it windowd because it is "easier for screenshots". I presume he uses a program that needs you to click on the desired window for selecting the area to be screenshot. But there is no such need. Just run DF with the "-shots" option and when you press the appropriate key while playing it will save a screenshot of the action onscreen...

It works fine under Win XP? Man, I have been out of the loop. When I disappeared a couple years ago all we had was that VDMsound thing. Gameplay was still slow, sound was still weird, HUD still flickered. So, then. What's the change?

Or you can try DOSBox, which is free.
The recently released VMWare Player is free too, but you'll have to google around for a MS-DOS VM image or some-such.
BTW Virtual PC isn't supported under XP Home but it runs just fine for me.

DOSBox is the death to any DOS gaming that lists a requirement for a processor faster than, say, 20MHz. That's about the most I can manage to squeeze out of it using my Athlon64...
Virtual PC looks to be better than that, though I know it won't run until I get XP installed on my system. I'm still working through my ME installation to get it all cleared up. For some reason, not only does Dark Forces not run on it, (it ran flawlessly on my old ME machine) now the "EMS" (extended memory) setting has completely dissapeared from the DOS settings, hence all DOS programs see their environment as having 0KB of EMS, and thus the only DOS game I can run anymore is Daggerfall. Very sad since I miss playing Master of Orion.
