I am designing a new level and I want to put in some new music, but the GMDI converter file is corrupted. I tried downloading it a couple times from the downloads section, but it won't work. Could someone either update that file or send me a working coppy?
Thanks

There are a couple of converters... I think the other one is the one you want.
I can't find a mirror so here you go.

Is there any way to compress wav or mp3 files. I took the Stalk-06.voc from the game and enhanced it, but the resulting wav file is 45 mb. I must have enhanced it a lot!
I wanted it for a level I will be designing because it has that eerie feel to it, but it's too big! Help!

Ok, I guess I don't have to use the 45 MB wav file, but i'd have to have a way to convert a MIDI to a voc. Gold wav doesn't support MIDI's, though and I don't have any idea how to convert it otherwise.
If anyone could give me some help with either of these two things, that would be great. Thanks.

You are going to have to think smaller.

You've gotta use the 8khz sample rate, mono cuz DF doesn't support stereo VOCs. And if you're gonna do MIDI, you can use GMidi to convert MIDI back to GMD.

I really want to convert the midi into a voc file so that I can page it durring the level, but Goldwav doesn't recognize midi's as one of it's audio types. Is there any way to make the MIDI into a voc file?
I want to have different music play at different times like in "Among the Shadows: Fortress Quadrigon."

Play it in Winamp and use the Dump to WAV File output plugin.
However, MIDI sucks. As long as you're going to use VOC start with some better music in MP3 or make some from scratch or find someone who can.

That's one of the problems, though. The MP3 file is 4 mb. I might just change my way of doing things. I may make the whole level eerie. I don't know.
I'll think of something. Thanks guys for your input.

VOCs are way reduced in quality compared to MP3. The resulting file will be much smaller, probably 1mb or less.

Yes, and there is plenty of other disadvantages with VOC music, so make sure you know what to expect if you want to implement it. I've had some uncomfortable experiences while developing the sound for the Fortress Quadrigon. Check out the article I wrote on the subject: http://df-21.net/articles/sampledmusic.html

Speaking of VOC soundtracks, Fish did you ever find that other source MP3 for the Fortress Quadrigion music? The Dark Forces Remix one.

I found out that it had unfortunately not survived a disk crash from some time ago, and I couldn't find it in the archives... c'est la vie. I could just remix the original tracks from the studio one day.
Sorry for not E-replying - I actually left the gmail and am now on ribic @ pcekspert.com
