Does anyone know if there is a 3DO of a Corellian Corvette (aka, Rebel Blockade Runner) anywhere? I'm looking for one because I'm currently trying to design a level that takes place aboard one, and I need a 3DO if it so that you can see the Corvette through the window of the ship you start out on (it's my first level, learning as I go).

There is a Corellian Corvette 3DO in the "Condition Red" GOB file.

To the people who know these things:
Is it okay to use that even though it is not in the downloads section and it would pretty much be "stealing" the file?

Well, I rationalize it this way: Since we are already editing copywrite material we give them credit for it right? So it is okay to use the materials made by others (BMs, 3DOs, etc.) as long as we give them credit. I actually feel priviledged to have others use my material, but they have to give me credit. It's much like plagerism, but on a much different level not to give others credit for what they've done and claim it for yourself. The only thing I know for certain you can't take (unless authorized by the author) is the original level design, that would just be rude.

Also, if you look in text files of other missions, they will often list the custom components and who created them so it shows that other people do the same thing, but we don't get angry about it do we?

So in short, yes it is okay, but just give the maker some credit Wink . Unless they state otherwise. Besides, we're all friends here, right Smile ?

I'd like to think so, but I also want to make sure we keep it that way so I figured there was no harm in asking. Thanks BG Smile

Well, if I remember correctly, most 3DOs of starships, particularly the ones in Condition Red, were actually ripped from TIE Fighter and X-Wing. Of course, Lucasarts doesn't seem to have filed any lawsuits against the people who made these levels, so apparently, it doesn't matter all that much.

There aren't any ways to rip files from Tie Fighter on Mac are there?

No, they're *not* ripped from X-Wing and TIE Fighter. If they were, that would mean someone had figured out the structure of the old .3d files, and I assure you that nobody has managed to do that.

It amazes me to think that they were all done by hand. Simply incredible.

They actually were done by hand.

The reason we did not want to use any available models was that 1) they had much too many faces (performance) and 2) they would be really hard to texture.

So we just re-did them from scratch. Jereth made the TIEs, the Corellian Cruiser and the B-Wing; I did the X-Wing, the Y-Wing and the A-Wing and the Assault Transports. Don't remember who did the Corvette, I think it was me. What we did not redo was the Star Destroyer. Smile

You can surely use the models as long as you supply the authors with proper credits.

Nearly a month later, I stand corrected. I certainly couldn't tell that the detail of the Condition Red models was any less... Smile

Well, we found out by testing that in fact, a textured model is drawn almost as fast as the same model without textures. So you can go with fewer faces, layering some nice texture instead.

Besides, if you modelled the back of the Corvette with faces (the glowing engine structure) by hand, you'd go nuts. Smile
