Can I take a month and just try to spice this thing up a lot, I'm talking about some new areas, some more INF and maybe a little tweaking, I know usually turns are a week at a time, but its hard to do anything in a week and usually after to turns it dies again anyway, I think maybe if I can make some headway, it would get things running again.

You know, I played through part of the map, and it just seems way to random, I cant find where I am going, nothing really makes sense, I know part of the backstory was that it was supposed to be built over the years (just like the level) and that it had been cobbled together but it just seams too much, for example, the cantina with the slot machine, old messed up door, right off the docking area. I think one thing it needs is plenty of signs, but I think it might need to be chopped down a little and rearanged somewhat.

Some of the level just don't seem to make sense from an architecural point of view either, big hallways ending in tiny, usless rooms. Or, tiny doors and tiny out of the way elevators that take you from one part of the level to another.

Can I take some time to give this level a little bit of an overhaul, and then everyone can decide if its good or not? It doesn't have to be used, we can always just scrap what I did, but I think I might be able to make the level a lot less confusing.

Is this okay with everyone?

I guess Nottheking is who I really want to hear from, I guess I'll start though, and if I find out everyone doesn't want me to, then we can just ignore my work.

A month sounds like a more realistic turn length given the current lack of vital signs. Go for it.

I'm trying to figure out where to begin, everything seems so random, good luck finding your way around this place. I think every thing needs to be divided into three wings. one rec wing, on docking and spacecraft wing and one operations wing and all the generators in the core. ohh, and then either an Imperial section or Sky Mall in the last tram stop.

What do ya'll think? If I go ahead with it, it would drasticaly change the layout, and and we would potentiall lose a bit of what is there, but I think it would help organize everything, make it easier to navigate, and I daresay, make progress move alot faster.

I think we might have almost enough material to stop building, spend a little time tricking it out, and then put all the objectives and everything to make it a full blown level.

Ohh, and where is the story line and all that, that might help to have in the ZIP file.

Sorry; I was too wrapped up with Anarchy Online in the past week, so I didn't notice when somebody actually bothered to post in the OP forum... Embarassed

Anyway, you can take it for a month. If that's what it takes to get people to take a turn at it, by all means. This also has the added advantage that there'll only need to be 12 turns for a whole year, instead of 52. I was personally having the same idea as you, Tom, but the main obstacle was that I'm still figuring out what I need to do to get DF running on my new machine without emulation...

As for re-vamping the sections already in place, I do not reccomend trying that. The story (which, sadly, also seems to have been lost with the death of the DF-21 fansites) was fairly clear that the space station was a rather hap-hazardly constructed "ramshackle" vessel constructed over many, many years. As for the story, it involved a chase by Kyle Katarn after some imperiual shuttle for some form of secret data. Might've been the death star plans, might've not...

It just doesn't make any sense, even hap-hazerd would have to have some thought to it if we are talking about building a space station. I mean, even I get lost playing it. It will still be hap-hazerd, because I'll still place the rooms with winding halls, it just will at least have some over all sense to it.

Like I said if I upload it and everyone hates it, thats fine, we can ditch what I did and use the version I have now. But I think this project really needs a kick in the pants to get it off the ground, and I know that when I tried to figure out what to do when I had a turn I never knew where to start.

The Open Project level seemed to me, last time I saw it, just a massive showcase level. Different people doing different things and themes, basically showing how fancy DF can look. It'd be great if someone would put a plot line into it, like start in the hotel and do a bunch of stuff to escape or something... storyline definitely important Very Happy

I DOES have a plot, as well as objctives; they jsut haven't been installed into the level yet, as they'll wait until this part of the level creation is done.

Actually, I'm talking about the sequence of all of us taking turns, not any specific turn in particular. I'm not sure what Llyren's plan was to place the end of this game of sending it around and around; I was hoping he'd get back here soon enough to take the OP off of my hands, because only he actually knows what was to be in store for it.

Of course, it could've very well been that what he had in store for it was for it to rot away, hence his vanishing, so if then, then I'll try to figure out something. Every time I come into the OP forum, I wish more and more that we still had the OP web page...

So Tom. Any news to pass along about your progress? I was kind of thinking along the same lines you were in that maybe the turns should be longer, but that means we have to wait longer to see results (not you anyway, but the rest of us). At least we have Cloudspear to keep us occupied.

Well now we're through the first trimester and not much has happened, but that's to be expected. I mean these things take awhile and have to be developed slowly to increase the likelyhood of success. I guess sometime soon we should take a sonogram to make sure everything is going okay and then you should come in for another checkup at the end of the second trimester. Razz

Just six more months till we have a new OP people! Wink Rolling Eyes

Did you manage to find those Red Bulls? I never really cared for canned energy drinks anyway... I prefer hot chocolate myself. Razz

I was fairly certain that it was A.D. 2101.
I'd say shortly after the release of Duke Nukem Forever, and perhaps about 9 months before Dai-Katana II.
