so yeah i'm kinda new to this. how do you load the levels onto the game?

You download the level you want to play and place all the files in your dark directory i.e. c:\dark, then you just run the bat file. If the level does not come with a bat file you go to dos, go to c:\dark and type dark -uFILENAME.gob and enter, where FILENAME is the name of the levels gobfile i.e. KUREK.gob or DTIDE.gob.

Of course if you use a mac, you need to change the binary. this can easily be done by downloading the MacGober app that is available here in the DFGold package. Just drop the GOB file in the app and double click it when it's changed and you're good to go.
