I really love the Dark forces music and I want to use them for other games, and perhaps in a fan film (PERHAPS!). For this purpose, I've download wdfuse and converted the sound.gob into tiny .gmd files. The problem is that I can't run Gmidi on XP's DOS emulator. Please help me!

Welcome to DF-21 Smile

you might find GMIDI 0.5 BETA helpful, download it from this page on our site. it will let you convert the GMID files to standard "MIDI" format which is recognised by most players (including Windows media Player).

Would any one know if you could extract the Tie Fighter tracks as well as the DF?

TIE Fighter uses the same format, but it relies on iMuse far more heavily.

Dark Forces' use of iMuse is simple. There are two tracks per level: Stalk and Fight. Stalk is used when you're not fighting anyone. Fight is used when you're being shot at.

iMuse basically allows Dark Forces to smoothly switch between the tracks in a naturally sounding way, as if the music was specifcally made to flow the way it does, to try and emulate a movie-esque experience... well ok it's not too good at that but hey, it was 1994 or whatever.

TIE Fighter's use is much more complex from my own personal observations.

In addition to normal tracks used to indicate "mood" like in Dark Forces, these tracks are split into many small pieces. These pieces are themselves put together randomly (I think) to form different variations each time the track is played.

This means... you'll have to stitch the pieces together yourself after you convert them. Have fun. Smile
