Great 4 level pack. Includes the first custom mission ever released.

It's the Death Star! The atmosphere is great, the enemies well placed, it's the Death Star! This is a nice level, and it's the Death Star! Alas, the most obvious thing (Death Star) has been done so many times before... it's the Death Star. That's it. Shame there's nothing distictive about this mission...

Out of ten: 8

Level 2:
Plagued by the early problems of df levels. Bland, blocky, Just doesn't grab you.
Out of ten: 3

Level 3:
Nice. A bit many enemies for realism out there in the desert, but still, an all around okay map. Boba was placed okay, I guess.
Out of ten: 8

Level 4:
Don's run out of steam. Imagine level three tweaked a little. Don't get me wrong, three was a great level. But if I wanted to play it again, I would've.
Out of ten: 4

Weighted average: 5 out of 10.

I must admit that this was my favourite df level pack for a long time. DarthDoctor is right - the Death Star level is fantastic, yet I cannot think of another df level set on the deathstar. It hasn't been done before or since. Level 2 was built with a text editor, before the days of dfuse, for that you have to appreciate this mission, it is small and blocky, but it's still quite an achievement. I love the last 2 levels bacause they are set on tatooine, and I think they re-create the tatooine atrmosphere very well (or they did at the time). I love this pack, though it's very dated by todays standards, it kicked arse 6 years ago.

This is one of my favorite level series. The Death Star level rocks (it's in my personal HoF), and is by far the star of the show in this pack. Level two is short and as said before blocky, but it has an excellent layout and some decent architecture. Level 3 and 4 are virtually identical, but both feature a great layout, and some good atmosphere. The plot is rather bad though. I'd give the series something around an 8 (out of 10).

Level 2 gets maximum respect. Only one of levels 3 and 4 does.

There is... another... Death Star level...

It's called Operation: Evasive Action, and it's by Andrew Emmons. Quite a neato idea, although it's a bit dull as DF levels go.

It is in fact tucked away in the FTP: http://df-21.net/downloads/missions/deathst1.zip

I'd better update that files page...

This isn't one of those levels that says it's situated on the daeathstar, but it's so badly made, it could be anywhere? They're are quite a few of those.

Ah Don-df42. I still love this mission pack. In my opinion this level, along with return to cloud city, are the pinnacle of pre golden-era Dark Forces level editing.

This level pack in itself was well put together, but there were some ups and downs that prevented it from 5 stars.

I loved the Death Star level! It actually looked like the Death Star in that it was vast looking. But no other comment on that.

The second level, the return to secbase was well done as well. A lot was done in the Hanger with literally no HOMing.

I didn't really enjoy the last two levels, but the scenery was nice and represented Tatooine nicely.

This work, just by itself, is very fine editing. The levels are well balanced out, and are just as professional-looking as the original LEC levels, and the first one is even better-looking.

Operation DethStar is a very good level. When I first heard the plot, I thought "Oh no, not another crappy levvel!" I was wrong. Although the scale left me scratching my head, it looked very much like the Death Star, and it was a nice level for being a traditional "find the DS plans" level.

Secbase II was also a good level. Although it didn't have anything spectacular, it is one of the most flawless levels I have ever seen. I could almost swear that the author works for LEC (which, coincidentially, he now does).

The most amazing thing about the series, however, was that it was among the first. Secbase II was the first-ever custom-made DF level; it was made using a text editor, and nothing more. That was truly outstanding work, and must have taken incredible effort. I would say that this is the crown jewell of the "Pre-Kurek" era.

Operation DethStar: 9.0/10
Secret Base II: 8.5/10
3rd level (I don't remember the name): 7.5/10
The Impossible Rescue: 5.0/10

That *was* Operation: Evasive Action, actually.

Here maybe? Darklev.zip and Donsdf1.zip have identical level data, but Donsdf1.zip claims to be version 1.1 while Darklev.zip doesn't mention a version number, so I'm not sure what's up.

Dfedit.zip here looks like something even older: a barely modified version of SECBASE with just a few sectors added to the roof, and the object placement changed.
