I have a PCI CT4740 Creative Sound Blaster 16, all my other games work great on it, but for some reason I can't get any sound in DF. However when I run the sound card setup utility it plays the test sounds then. PLZZZ help me this is really annoying!!

I suppose I should get the old article back up.

:: sound of FTP client spluttering ::

There.

That's all we know. Although if you're getting sound in the setup program and not in the game, I don't know why that would be.

wot I might do is build a dedicated DF rig, I have some old SuperSocket 7 rigs here, I might put it on my 400 since it doesnt like newer technology.

Ironically enough I am having trouble finding a driver for my soundcard in that rig ^_^

WTF clearly sums up my thoughts on the issue...

Does the DF setup not use the DOS4GW environment? I'm just babling here... I should just shut up.

Yeah, you should.

on the other hand, I think it is an issue of X not being a CH20432 converter with a built in giga, really, all respectable blas399 uses a CHAH)#u77400 for computing sound rays!

Well I fixed it the old fashioned way. I installed it on my 400 MHz AT tower which weighs like 6 tons and is full of technology that has proally been unearthed in some barren desert somewhere in Egypt. Works great too.

Mr. Green

Is it a K6 or a PIII? if it was a K6, it wasn't from Egypt... it was probably unnearthed from a South American Tomb...

Actually it's a K6-II. Like I'm going to trust a PIII to handle the graphics-intensive software that is Dark Forces. I mean, for real, Dark Forces requires some high processor speeds to be able to run properly. If I remember correctly you need a whopping 75 MHz of processing power to play, and that's with low detail and crappy resolution.

I highly reccomend building a seperate machine for older games like DF...

...Just remember to include at least 32MB (64 would be better) of RAM, so you can play newer levels, like the upcoming DTIII and DTIV! Otherwise, the point of a seperate computer is moot.
