just downloaded the first 2 of the series and they both seem to crash right after the opening cutscenes. I'm using DOSBox on Vista. Any ideas? the renderer in the DOSbox config is opengl.

Increase the amount of memory allocated by DosBox. There is a configuration file, find the memory setting in there (I forget what its called now) and set it to 63. This allows Dos games to use up to 63MB of ram. You can play with the numbers of course but I think that was the maximum last time I checked (i.e. higher values don't make any difference - atleast in the version I'm using which isn't the most up to date).

I wonder, does increasing the RAM use make it faster? It seemed that when I played DTII, looking at the ATAT would always slow the game big time.

I don't think it's an issue with the actual levels, I think it has something to do with the cutscenes and briefing. Check to make sure all the appropriate files are where they should be and try it again.

ok, I just put all the lfd's in the main folder and now it works. The initial readme I read was hard to read and I didnt see anything about installation. Then, I looked at Dark Tide 1's readme and it gave good directions. Thanks

In most Dark Forces mods you are supposed to unzip them right into the Dark Forces folder. The LFD folder is not used since LFDs in the main folder override those in the LFD folder... so mods can temporarily store their LFDs there without messing with the main game files.

In the future please try to be more specific about crashes and errors. If you have said from the start that you were getting "Landru" errors we would have narrowed down the problem immediately (probably still would have recommended the memory change, but also would have asked how you were running the mod etc).
