As you may have noted, apart from these forums, DF-21's content is getting a tad stagnant and hasn't been updated in a while. There are broken links, uploaded files that haven't been checked yet, and enough charred corpses [or they might just be files renamed with ".old"] to make the place look a bit like Tak Base.

At the moment the site is mostly based on static HTML with a few server-side includes; the PHP on the front page is simply to include the news content (which is generated by an ageing Perl script). In a perfect world we'd have a nice CMS like Drupal or Joomla which allows online editing of the articles, posting news, a downloads database (yes, those pages currently really are static HTML, updated by hand...) all integrated of course with these forums themselves, or something as similar as possible.

(There are plenty more things that could be done with such a setup; project blogs, user ratings/reviews directly attached to downloads, Hall of Fame voting, integrated FAQ/wiki and probably plenty more you can think of.)

I wish I could improve this myself but Real Life has been taking my time away from DF-21 for quite some time. Since Lucius arrived and the DarkXL project began taking shape there has been quite a bit more activity here; once the editor is released this could really spark into life, and I'd really like the site to be in a position to help things forward (rather than risking holding it back!)

So with that said: are you interested in helping out? Whether it's just going through the existing HTML and tidying stuff up where you can, or if you know a bit about the aforementioned CMSes and would have some ideas for ushering DF-21 into a second glorious decade, please let me know, preferably by Private Message on these boards or by email (fenwar dot dark dot forces at gmail dot com). Let me know in particular if you've already got any experience in running any other websites (links would be great).
