|
|
Now I finished dark forces (took me monthes lol), I wanne play and finish jedi knight
however it crashes on my system
the crashes only occur randomly when I save or load a save...
here are my specs:
Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.2GHz
ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2
Corsair Dominator 4Go
Win XP Pro
Any idea how to fix the crashes please?

It's happened to me a few times. I always just did the "Save Often and Pray" technique

It happens to me too, but the quicksave function doesn't seem to crash the game. Try it, it's better than losing your progress at random times
It'll still crash randomly when loading, I think, but that isn't near as bad. Hope it helps.

thanks for the help
Under winxp properties I set the compatibility mode of all exe to Windows 95 and I just loaded my game 20 times and it didn't crash once
so either I was super lucky or that is the solution
let me know if you get same result

Yep, I think that's it
I saved about 10 times and loaded about 15, it worked every time.

I'm more curious how you were able to get Jedi Knight to Run on a DX10 card. Are you running it in 3D acceleration mode?

I never used DX10, I'm running WinXP.
My card can handle DX9 perfectly and it works for any game up to GTA4, SF4, etc... I don't know a single game that is DX10 only.
And no I do not use 3D acceleration as it causes massive gfx glitches

That's what I figured. I say DX10 because the card you have is DX10 capable, which apparently has trouble with older versions of Direct X below a certain number (Or so I've read). I know WinXP can't run DX10

the win95 method works flawlessly to supress load/save crash
however...
checking mission objectives and trying to go back to game will still crash the game flawlessly

Mmmm, strange, it never did that to me even without the compatibility mode enabled . . . too bad, I hope you can find a way around it.
I'm gonna be on vacation for a month starting wednesday, and I'll have two other computers to try JK on (one w/ Windows 98, one with XP, both with older hardware), so I'll post any problems/fixes I find with those systems.

From what I could understand, it may be an ATI Radeon HD specific bug.
