|

I am currently using Mac OSX Leopard. Was wondering if anyone knew a way to get DF running on it. OSX no longer supports classic environment, which is what it is still formatted as. Any ideas?

I am not an OSX expert, but there is likely some third-party apps to help get classic mode programs working. Google around. Otherwise, you could run an older Mac OS that supports Classic mode in an emulator (this may be slow).
I do know that running the DOS version of Dark Forces in DOSBox should work (DOSBOx is happily cross platform). This is the solution I use under Windows for running Dark Forces.

Thanks, I will try it.
Do you know if this will also work for DarkXL?

DarkXL only works on Windows at this time. However a port to MacOS is likely after beta - but not until then.

Didn't see anything about DarkXL the first time. You'll need either a PC emulator (right now VMWare is the only one that supports DirectX hardware acelleration, which would be needed for gaming on a PC emulator... VirtualBox has it panned for the future) or a Windows API emulator (AKA Wine... I believe there is DarWine or something for OSX) however for the latter you probably need an intel x86 cpu, not the older mac PowerPCs.

Very late post.
You are better off running boot camp on your Mac. Then you can run DarkXL or PCDF in DOSBox in WinXP.

Dual booting is far less convenient than being able to run a game directly. Isn't there a seamless emulator for Macs? Parallels or something?
Anyways you could always run any virtual machine software... VirtualBox might have support for DirectX acceleration which would make DarkXL run decently. But I think ATM you need a Windows host for that.

Yeah Parallels would be fine for that. I think the point I was trying to make was that you'll have to do it in Windows one way or the other.

Or for Dark Forces just use DOSBox for Mac. Cause you know it's cross-platform.

I did not know that it was for OS X. Shows how long I have been out of DF now I guess.
