Well for various reasons I've had need to acquire a Mac Book Pro. I actually have to get used to developing on the Mac (and of course continuing on the PC) so I will be using DarkXL and DaggerXL as a good excuse to do just that. So expect Mac and Linux ports (since much of the work to get Mac working translates over directly) in the reasonably near future.

Wow, I just notice this thread now. Lucius, it's fantastic. I have a MacBook Pro as well. Looking forward to see a brand new DF editor on the Mac !

The tricky thing with the iPad (actually, the iPhone OS) is the closed ecosystem with its arbitrary Apple approval process. If DarkXL was approved for the App Store, how would the user get the Dark Forces data onto the device? There's no technical problem, but the user base would likely be limited to "jailbroken" iPhone OS devices, whose users can load Dark Forces data via SSH.
To be approved for the App Store, DarkXL would likely need to include original game content so it would have stand-alone functionality. Such content could be created as a big project by DF-21 regulars. It would have to be a Dark Forces-like game with all-original media and no Star Wars IP that could run in DarkXL without Dark Forces game data installed. The DarkXL iPhone app could "just happen" to work with Dark Forces game data that might be installed by jailbreakers in a certain folder. If not allowed on the App Store, the DarkXL app could be distributed via Cydia which would limit it to jailbreakers, but if the app is for all iPhone OS devices, not just the iPad, there could be a significant user base even then.

Apple does not allow arbitrary data to be loaded onto its devices, so being able to play mods would be out of the question. It may be possible to whitelist specific files via hashing to make Apple happy and allow for usage of the specific Dark Forces files.
