Not yet anyway.
As of yesterday, a trip I'd been planning for nearly 5 years will finally come to fruition and in 2 months I will be leaving for Japan to be gone for the entire month of May.
This is my first time traveling internationally let alone by myself so this will be an interesting experience for me.
Has anybody here ever been there? If so, is there anywhere in particular that I should see, be aware of, or anything? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

No never been there, but I plan on going some day.
Japan is going to be a real culture shock, especially since you've never been abroad before. Make the most of it and have fun.

A friend of mine went to Japan for a bit... I'll shoot her an e-mail and post her reply here.

Leaving for Japan in a few hours and while I will have my laptop with me I probably won't be visiting here as often for the next few weeks. I'll poke in from time to time though.

It would take me forever to write a whole explanation, but to make a short under exaggerate comment on my experience it would have to be nothing short of amazing.
It's one of the few places in the world you can go to and see a fusion between the modern world and ancient tradition. Go to Kyoto and you'll see what I mean. Other places felt like I was back home, like tokyo and osaka just because of how modern and western everything looked there. But Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Miyajima were some of the most amazing places I've ever been to.
As far as Hiroshima goes, I urge anyone going to Japan to take at least one day to go there and visit the Peace Park, it's one of the most humbling experience you'll ever have.
If anyone has questions about my experiences I'll answer them. And here's a link to my facebook photo gallery if you're interested.
