I just had the most unique idea for a level. Unfortunately, I can't put it into practice, so I may as well give it to the people and see what they do with/to it. See, this is my community service...

I got the idea to send Kyle Katarn to Hell, something like Dante's Inferno, and see if he can fight his way out through all nine circles. Unfortunately, I've never read Inferno, though I plan to soon—another reason why I'm tossing this idea out to everyone. Along the way Kyle could encounter a cast of bizarre and varied characters, from evil spirits and similarly welcome residents of Hell—not all of which have to be evil, of course, you could see the occasional nice-guy gigantic fire-breathing Balrog-looking thing or something—to tortured souls.

So do I need to cut the caffiene out of my diet or is this actually a good idea?

Yes, but rule #1: Never give out an idea for a level. Make it yourself. Other people have their own ideas and are move likely to make levels based off of them. Smile

I'm giving it out because I can't make it myself. Not only do I not know what to do, but I can't get any of the editors to work on my computer anyways.

I finished reading Dante's Inferno a few weeks ago. Don't try to read it unless you really care. And make sure that your copy has good notes. You won't understand any of it otherwise. The book is somewhat boring.

General rule of thumb: If you can't make a level yourself, your idea wont get made!

This idea might be better suited to Doom anyway, surely? Twisted Evil

Nah, then it would be far too predictable... Even though it would look way sweet, once DOOM3 came out...

I like the idea, but I'm not going to volunteer any work for it... I'm too bogged down as it is...

The idea strikes me as funny: as yet, we have yet to have anything along the line of Hell (or any lower plane) in Star Wars... And it would make a smashing sequel to Operation Calkwalk: Kyle Likes Cake!!

Interestingly enough, I got the idea while playing the demo for Operation Cakewalk. Hmm.

I said it would be an interesting sequel, in part because of the humor of the situation, and mainly because of the following part of the briefing file:

MISSION

Anyway, once you do all this stuff and get to the Emperor’s birthday, your mission is to steal the Emperor’s birthday cake and then run away really fast before the millions of loyal Imperial personnel attending the party see you.

Usually I say something funny about now to relieve the air of doom and futility, but it’s been nice knowing you Kyle. See you in hell.

Now I’m off to go have a shower, and I know about your stupid X2-Cam, you pervert!

MISSION GOALS

- Do that other stuff.
- Get to the Emperor’s Birthday Party at Imperial Pizza Land.
- Steal the Emperor’s Cake.
- HOLY snap! RUN!

Actually, the official sequel scheduled for release in 3021 is "The Dork Tide 17 1/2: Textured Poop 3do"

I *was* going to rebuild doom shareware into df, release a multi-level pack, etc, but never got a round tuit. There's still a demo on this site.
