This is even better than those stories of people who've called the police to report that their illegal drugs were missing!

That reminds me of another case, where a guy got pulled over for speeding, more than 20 Mph/32Kph over the limit in this case. The cop gave him a ticket for something around $100, and then the guy sped again. The same cop pulled him over, and gave him another ticket. Yet again, the same crime, the same cop, but this time, the offender went to jail. This entire incident happened in the span of less than half an hour! Shocked

It's fun that you always here these kind of stories from the US. I mean, you even have TV shows dedicated to stupid criminals (some channels here love showing those shows here late at night... don't ask me why). I'm curious, though, why I can't think of a single similar example from Sweden, and I have to wonder... is that a good or a bad thing? Smile

Here's one I heard on Jay Leno:

"Three teenagers stole a boat, beached the boat, and then burned it. They all laughed about it until they realized they were on an island."

And yet another Leno Headline:

"A suspect bankrobber was caught just an hour after a bank robbery. The suspect had drawn a fake beard on his face with a yellow highlighter."

And another one that I read somewhere:

"A man was found glued to the floor of a glue factory. Apparently, he had snuck in in attempt to get high on glue fumes. He was found near three drums of opened airplane glue, one that had been overturned. The authorities had to chisel the man out where he was later charged with drug abuse."

My favorite is the shop lifter who believed lemon juice made people invisible. So, he entered a store, dressed naked, smeared himself in lemon juice - all in front of recording security cameras - and then planned to simply carry whatever he wanted out of the store in plain sight.

There are so many flaws with that plan I don't even know where to start. So I won't.

True story...

'Man robs a bank in North Carolina, at night. Police chase him through woods, he has a pair of those L.A. Lights sneakers that light up and flash when they walk. He was caught Rolling Eyes '

We have enough of those people to make a TV show purely about their escapades. Seeing someone try to break into a store by throwing a brick at a plexiglass window, only to have the window bounce the brick back at him and knock him unconscious, has a certain charm to it.

My favorite, however, is the robber who entered your average liquor store and took the money in the register, that sorta thing. He also wanted some alcohol.

"Well, I'll have to see your ID," the clerk said. So the robber shows the clerk his drivers' license, the clerk copies down his name, address, license plate number, etc. Then he gives the alcohol to the robber, the robber leaves, etc.

The robber mysteriously gets a warrant for arrest a few days later...

Another one of my favorites was one about a guy who tried to steal an air-conditioner unit. He used a solid steel machete to hack through the tubing. Things went quite painful when he slashed through the wiring... The unit happened to be one of those 220-volt ones... The police found him a half an hour later, burned and unconcious.

I remember my mom telling me about some criminals who stole a bunch of stuff & wanted to pawn it. Tghe pawnshop owner wouldn't let them without showing sales recipts (to make sure they were not stolen), so the criminals went back to the house they stole the stuff from & asked the owner for sales recipts!

Idiots! Smile

You know, it makes you wonder if they're doing those stupid things on purpose.

Unfortunately, from what two persons I know well told me, and who are policemen, that sort of thing also happens here, and in France as well and, I suppose, in other European countries. The difference is: we don't make entertaining shows of it (except for the few TV shows you mentioned, which show the American police videotapes most likely because European police cars usually are not equipped with video cameras). It's probably bad it also happens here, and good that we don't proudly show it on prime time Wink

In the United States, the media has a tendency to jump at every opportunity to be "the best". If it means making shows like "America's Dumbest Criminals", then they do it.

Of course, the shows being predominantly from the US might have something to do with the fact that the USA has possibly the highest crime rate of any developed country, and thus the most stupid criminals...
