*Starts preaching his "In the Hands of an Angry God Sermon" to cancel out The Hindu Heretics...*

Actually I'm interested in what Hinduism is. I've never really known what its was about. Don't they worship cows?

As far as I can guess, you're a Hindu, aren't you? I know nothing about this religion. Maybe it would be a good occasion for us all to learn something new if you would briefly describe its ruling principles in this topic. I'm all ears (I mean... eyes) 8)

Lionel, Lionel, Lionel. ::shakes head paternally, while aware that Lionel is older:: While I am technically Hindu, my comment above was pure flame-bait, a mere troll. I don't care to evangelise, and I have no opinion on the merits (or otherwise) of Hinduism relative to any other religion.

If you have specific questions, I'd be happy to answer them in email, but be aware that I don't have in-depth knowledge.

You're trolling, I hope.

It's a regular religion.

Cows are semi-sacred (depends on which Hindu you ask), but not really an object of "worship".

Since there have been so many discussions here where many people talked about values of christianism and Islam, for the most part, I just found this would have been an interesting matter if somebody had written a bit about one more religion of which, I suspect, very few of us know something. And I have no particular question to ask Cool.

Kind regards.

It is kind of sad how segregated the religions are. In fact, in a thorough seach on the Internet, I could not find two sources that gave the same results. So, I will present the ammount of the world, by religion, as a series of ranges, ordered by highest percentage found:
    -Christianity:........16-33%
    -Islam:.................12-28%
    -Non-religeous.....15-24%
    -Hinduism.............8-19%
    -Buddhism............4-9%
    -Judaism..............<1%
Yet, depsite a guaruntee that not a single one of those groups is even NEAR a simple majority, the typical member of one of those groups will know next to nothing about any of the other groups... Worse yet, the different denominations of those religeons are just as separated...

"I do, however, find it ironic that we Americans still celebrate the holiday, after treating the Indians so awfully."

Whats wrong with celebrating the times when we were peaceful and did treat each otherright? Is it wrong to look back to when things were good?

Besides not every American wanted to kick indians out or kill them, take William Penn for instance, "friend of the indians" or brother or soemthing. He was ever so nice to them. It wasnt until he died that his sons took advantage of the indians love for their father.

Also did u know that u are being offenseive to indians if u call them indians or native americans? If they want to be caleld anything its by their tribe names. The Euros named it America, not the indians. I was kinda surprised about that fact when i went to a lenape history thingy from a lenape in PA.

I see this thread as ridiculously dork. No offense.

I am a Christian and I do know quite a bit about other religions, I did a study at church about Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, Johovas Witness, and Mormanism. (I realise I butchered several of those names, I am sorry)

I know enough about them to know a basic outline off what they belive, and a bunch of contrictions and plain dumb errors.

One of the major points of conflict in the United States right now is that there are so many different cultures in the nation and people are discouraged from discussing many of them for fear of offending others. Religion for example is a major cultural influence yet for fear of offending people who are in essense anti-religious bigots we cannot comfortably dicuss others religion in public and as a result we (as a whole) never come to a valid understanding of those religions. People tend to fear what they do not understand and this creates a sense of distrust and even hostility. In essense we are creating a larger degree of tension among the majority for fear that a small unharmed minority of people who unreasonably hate religion will be offended. The social harm that results is greater than that prevented. If you look at the forces behind the anti-religion movement they are largely people with a political or economic interests in promoting sex, immodesty or behaviors frowned on by religions generally. How better to promote such behaviors than to silence the opposition by making people fear speaking out. I am not sanctioning intolerence of those others beliefs, but I think if they want to demand tollerence then they certainly should begin by learning to tolerate those they disagree with. To do otherwise makes them hypocrites.

Darn right. India is almost on the other side of the planet.

Alas, alas, at least on my public universtiy campus, all to often people believe _against_ other religions, rather than towards a religion. All too often, it's more of a, I don't believe you Nahnahnah watcha gonna do about it?

Basically,
I believe that one has an obligation to bring the errors of others to their attention. However, any correction they make must be their own choice.

So, yes, I "preach", but ultimately respect somebody's _decisions_ if not their religion.

(Jabbing back at the point of this thread) And I'm thankful for that.
